About the Role
Ready to use your clinical experience differently — with your evenings and weekends back?
We're recruiting compassionate, detail-oriented clinicians to join our Functional Assessor team, covering both Work Capability Assessments (WCA) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments. You won't be delivering hands-on treatment. Instead, you'll use your clinical expertise to conduct structured consultations — by phone, video, or face-to-face — to understand how a long-term health condition or disability affects someone's daily life, mobility, and/or ability to work. You'll translate your findings into clear, objective reports for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Ideally, candidates are open to working across both WCA and PIP. If you have a strong preference for one, we'll always try to accommodate it — though this depends on availability and need in your area and can't be guaranteed.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough face-to-face, telephone, or video consultations with individuals living with a range of physical and mental health conditions
- Review medical evidence, health questionnaires, and daily living/work activities
- Apply clinical judgement to assess functional capacity and/or work capability
- Write comprehensive, objective, evidence-based reports to a high professional standard
- Maintain empathy, professionalism, and strict confidentiality throughout every assessment
Salary & Guaranteed Pay Progression Salary depends on the pathway, with clear, guaranteed uplifts built in during your first year:
WCA Pathway
- Starting base: £42,000
- At 12 months: £43,000 — a £1,000 twelve-month uplift
PIP Pathway
- Starting base: £40,000
- At 6 months (on approval): £43,000 — £1,000 six-month uplift + £2,000 face-to-face assessor uplift
- At 12 months: £44,000 — an additional £1,000 twelve-month uplift
That's up to £4,000 in guaranteed uplifts within your first year on the PIP pathway, on top of your starting salary.
Bonuses, Earnings & Skill Progression
- Approval bonus: a one-off 5% bonus as soon as you're approved
- Annual performance bonus: up to 10% per year, paid quarterly at 2.5%
- Overtime: paid at time and a half (1.5x) once approved
- Voluntary upskilling: boost your base salary further once approved and meeting targets —
- File handling (WCA only): +£500 on approval
- Auditing (PIP & WCA): +£500 on approval
