The Train Station Day Nursery is a very busy family orientated nursery catering for approximately 100 lunches per day.
Main Purpose of the Job:
To prepare, cook and serve food at the Nursery plus other related catering duties. A full induction and continuing support will be given upon successful application. To have a full understanding of Food Safety (qualifications preferable).
Main Duties & Professional Responsibilities:
· To ensure the smooth running of the Nursery kitchen.
· To maintain standards in keeping with the guidelines laid out in The Food Standards Agency ‘Safer Foods, Better Business for Caterers’.
· To assist in devising menus to ensure a variety of meals is offered in the Nursery which caters for different dietary requirements as appropriate.
· To be aware of allergens and individual children’s allergies.
· To prepare, cook and serve meals, a full cooked lunch and afternoon tea. As well as making alternative meals in keeping with allergens and dietary requirements.
· Prepare afternoon snack and light tea as far as possible, Nursery Staff will finish preparing this if there is not enough time.
· Monitor food stocks and order relevant ingredients from our regular suppliers accordingly.
· Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen area; including washing utensils, crockery, equipment, surfaces and mopping floors.
· To inform the Nursery Manager of any defects in equipment, suspect food or other concerns relating to Food Safety.
· To maintain the opening and closing checks of the kitchen each day and record accordingly.
· To maintain all the temperature records for fridges freezers and food temperatures.
· Ensure all food and other items are stored properly.
· To prepare for and handle any EHO Inspection which may take place.
· To maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of nursery-related matters and to prevent disclosure of confidential and sensitive information.
· To undertake any duties or responsibilities that may arise within the bounds of this specific job role.
