JOB TITLE: Health Care Assistant (maternity cover to April 2027) - full time spread over 3 days / nights

Peninsula Heart Clinic, Plymouth, UK.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The successful candidate will support trained nursing staff in the following clinical locations within the Peninsula Heart Clinic: 1) outpatient clinic; 2) cardiac catheter lab; and 3) day-case unit.
You will be required to promote and maintain a caring and high standard of care, meeting the needs of our patients undergoing cath lab procedures (before and after their procedure) and clinical consultations (as outpatients).
Your role will involve working closely with the qualified nursing staff to ensure patients are admitted and prepared for cath lab procedures, that appropriate investigations are carried out and documentation is completed & recorded accurately. The role will involve the whole patient journey from admission to discharge ensuring patients individual needs are met and planned accordingly.
Main duties of the job
To support trained nursing staff in the following clinical locations within the Peninsula Heart Clinic: 1) outpatient clinic; 2) cardiac catheter lab; and 3) day-case unit.
· Ensure outpatient areas are prepared ahead of each clinical session in accordance with the agreed protocol
· To provide administrative clerical and clinical support to the clinical team for patient medical records
· To welcome patients to the service making them feel at ease throughout their visit to the Peninsula Heart Clinic
· To ensure patient documents are sourced and that the correct clinical information has been provided in order to support a smooth patient journey
· To act as a chaperone for patients as required
· To treat all patients and their relatives with kindness and respect.
REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES
· To perform basic observations (height & weight) when indicated in accordance with the protocol and Trust policy
· To perform blood pressure monitoring in accordance with the protocol and policy
· To perform blood glucose testing when indicated in accordance with the protocol and policy
· To perform urinalysis when indicated in accordance with the protocol and policy
· To perform phlebotomy procedures in accordance with the protocol and policy
To perform peripheral cannualtion in accordance with the protocol and policy
· To perform saturation monitoring when indicated in accordance with the protocol and policy
· To perform electrocardiogram (ECG) in accordance with standard protocols
· To act as a chaperone when required
Support clinical team with any urgent patient transfers
· To perform decontamination of equipment and consulting rooms in accordance with protocol and Trust Infection control policy
· To support the storage of medication in lockable fridges and carrying out daily temperature analysis
· To support the management of clinical stock items and equipment to ensure that these remain available ahead of every outpatient clinic session and to escalate to management when items are missing or require replacement
· To ensure the waiting room and treatment room environment are safe, clear of obstacles and reporting any hazards or faults.
· To work within the limits of own competence and area of responsibility and accountability.
· To monitor the quality of work in own area and alerts others to quality issues, reporting any errors or issues to the appropriate person.
· To maintain quality in own work and supervises others to do so
· Ensures patient safety at all times
· Contribute to own personal development and takes part in own appraisal
· Support and act as a role model to more junior staff and colleagues.
· Contributes to the planning and implementation of activities to raise awareness of health and wellbeing e.g. health promotion activities

HOURS:
Nursing care in the Unit is provided 24/7 -Monday to Saturday
Working patterns will cover both days and nights.
Days 8am - 8pm
Nights 8pm - 8am
The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly across all areas of the clinic. We expect there will be no requirement to work Bank Holidays without prior & mutual agreement.
SALARY: £25,685 - £27,395, dependent upon experience and qualification
PERSON SPECIFICATION
In order to fulfil this role to the required standard, the post holder will require the following skills/experience/attributes:
Minimum 2 years Health Care Assistant experience, ideally working in a cardiology setting , although full training will be provided.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

(D) Experience with cannulation, venipuncture, ECG and blood glucose testing
(E) Ability to accurately record clinical observations with demonstrable experience
(E) HCA Care Certificate - support will be given to attain this qualification
