Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Maintenance Operative / Handyperson to join our team at Castleford House, a 38 bed Nursing Home in the heart of Chepstow. You will also ocassionaly be reuqired to help at ur sister home, Chepstow Lodge, a 9 bed brain injury unit on the same grounds. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of our care homes. This role requires a versatile individual with technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, and general maintenance tasks, along with strong leadership and customer service skills to support a positive environment for residents and staff alike.
Reports to: Head of Maintenance/Registered Manager
Required Qualifications:
Must be fluent in verbal and written English.
A full clean driving license is preferable.
Trade specific qualifications or certifications are desirable.
7+ years experience is preferable
Key Responsibilities:
General Repairs - Addressing plumbing issues, electrical problems, carpentry, and other maintenance needs within the care home.
Decorating - Painting and decorating rooms, hallways, and common areas to maintain a pleasant environment.
Landscaping - Maintaining the grounds, including gardening, mowing lawns, and clearing pathways.
Safety Checks - Conducting regular checks of fire alarms, water temperatures, and other safety systems to ensure a safe environment.
Preventative Maintenance - Performing planned maintenance tasks to prevent issues from arising and maintain the building's integrity.
Communication - Liaising with residents, staff, and potentially contractors regarding maintenance needs and work progress.
Record Keeping - Maintaining records of completed tasks, maintenance schedules, and any necessary paperwork.
Budget Management - In some cases, managing a small maintenance budget and tracking expenses.
Essential Skills and Qualities:
Practical Skills - Experience in basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and decorating.
Problem-Solving - Ability to identify and resolve maintenance issues effectively.
Health and Safety Knowledge - Understanding of basic health and safety protocols, including fire safety and Legionella awareness.
Communication Skills - Ability to communicate effectively with residents, staff, and potentially contractors.
Physical Fitness - Ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, and working at heights.
Teamwork - Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with others.
Flexibility - Adaptability to changing demands and priorities within the care home environment.
