About the Role
S&B Automotive Academy is seeking an experienced and motivated Apprentice Development Coach / Trainer to join our dedicated team. This role is pivotal in supporting apprentices and employers throughout the apprenticeship journey ensuring that learners remain engaged, progress effectively, and successfully achieve their qualifications.
As a Development Coach, you will provide pastoral support, mentoring, and progress monitoring for a caseload of apprentices. You will also deliver both practical and theoretical training programmes at our Wigan depot, ensuring all learners and technicians meet required standards and demonstrate occupational competence.
While subject matter experts deliver the main technical training, you will ensure that apprentices remain on track, attend relevant sessions, and receive timely support to address any learning gaps.
This is a field-based position, with your home as your office. Travel to employer sites will be required, alongside occasional overnight stays to ensure effective learner and employer engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of apprentices, providing ongoing support throughout their apprenticeship journey.
- Conduct monthly progress reviews, ensuring coverage of apprenticeship fundamentals such as safeguarding, British values, health and safety, and learner wellbeing.
- Deliver inductions and progress reviews with learners and employers, creating and maintaining individual learning plans.
- Monitor the application of newly acquired skills in the workplace and ensure accurate completion of Off-The-Job (OTJ) training logs.
- Set clear objectives for learner progression, identifying and addressing any barriers to timely achievement.
- Liaise with training teams to schedule appropriate learning sessions based on individual needs.
- Support learners in preparation for final exams and End-Point Assessments (EPA).
- Provide constructive feedback to learners, ensuring milestones are achieved in line with programme expectations.
- Identify at-risk learners early and implement intervention strategies to support success.
- Collaborate effectively with the delivery team to maintain excellent communication and learner experience.
- When required, deliver engaging practical and theoretical training sessions at the Wigan depot to support apprentice and staff development.
- Deliver refresher and upskilling sessions for existing staff, ensuring consistency with company standards and operational requirements.
Requirements
- Proven experience in delivering training and assessing within a vocational or apprenticeship setting.
- Strong understanding of apprenticeship frameworks and standards, including functional skills requirements.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and relationship-building skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to monitor and record learner progress effectively.
- A passion for developing others and supporting career progression.
- Proactive, flexible, and solutions-focused approach to learner support.
