The Role
The Farmer Engagement lead is responsible for recruiting farmers into farming and agricultural projects, building strong relationships with farm businesses, and ensuring clear, consistent communication between farmers and ABP. The role acts as the primary point of contact for participating farms, supporting
engagement and helping projects run smoothly at farm level.
Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5pm with some flexibility to meet the demands of the business.
Location:
Shrewsbury with regular travel to supplying farms
Duties & Responsibilities
Recruit and onboard farmers into farming, environmental, or agricultural projects
Build positive, trusted relationships with farmers and farm managers through regular on-farm engagement
Act as the main point of contact for farmers, ensuring they are well informed, supported, and engaged
Clearly communicate project aims, requirements, timelines, and expectations to participating farms
Support farmers with project participation, data collection, paperwork, and practical queries
Organise and attend farm visits, meetings, and events
Promote best practice and encourage ongoing participation and collaboration
Maintain accurate records of farm engagement, communications, and project involvement
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
Practical experience working within the cattle industry (beef and/or dairy)
Strong understanding of cattle production systems, animal health, welfare, and farm sustainability
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Confidence engaging with farmers in a field-based environment
Ability to explain projects and technical information clearly and practically
Good organisational skills and attention to detail
Willingness to travel regularly to farms and rural locations
Desirable
Knowledge of assurance schemes, environmental schemes, or sustainability programmes within the
cattle sector
Experience in recruitment, outreach, or stakeholder engagement
Good IT and data collection skills
