Oranmore Precast is a leading manufacturer of high-quality precast concrete products, supplying customers across the UK from two bases Brandan, Norfolk and Lound, Nottinghamshire.
We are currently seeking an experienced SHEQ Officer to join our team and support the continued operation of our production facility.
This position can be based at either our Brandon or Lound site. Please note that the role covers both locations, and therefore flexibility to travel to and work from either site as required is essential.
The Role
To provide visible, practical SHEQ support across both sites and oversee the day-to-day implementation and coordination of health and safety procedures, helping to protect employees and others from work-related injury and ill health and supporting the Company in meeting its legal and other compliance obligations.
The role will coordinate inspections, internal audits, incident investigations, training and corrective actions, while supporting the Group Quality and Compliance Manager with the continuous Improvement strategy.
Key Responsibilities
SHEQ Management, compliance and reporting
- Support the Group Head of Quality and Compliance in implementing group SHEQ policies, procedures, objectives and improvement plans.
- Maintain a planned and visible presence across both factories, prioritising activity according to risk, incidents, audit findings and operational need.
- Maintain SHEQ action logs and provide accurate, timely reports on incidents, trends, audit findings, training status, non-conformances and overdue actions.
- Provide practical advice to managers and employees, challenge unsafe or non-compliant practices and escalate significant matters promptly.
- Promote a positive culture of consultation, learning, accountability and continuous improvement.
Health and safety
- Take day-to-day responsibility for coordinating and maintaining the Company’s health and safety procedures across both sites, proactively identifying improvements and driving action to reduce accidents, injuries and work-related ill health.
- Complete planned workplace inspections and internal compliance audits across manufacturing, yard, office and welfare areas, ensuring findings are recorded, assigned and closed within agreed timescales.
- Lead and coordinate the preparation, implementation and review of suitable and sufficient risk assessments, COSHH assessments, safe systems of work and associated control measures, working with operational managers and employees.
- Ensure accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and cases of suspected work-related ill health are promptly reported, recorded and investigated.
- Carry out proportionate incident investigations and root-cause analysis, identify lessons learned and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented, communicated and verified as effective.
- Monitor accident, incident and near-miss trends, identify recurring causes and develop targeted improvement initiatives to reduce the frequency and severity of accidents and prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate statutory reporting requirements, including RIDDOR, escalating reportable or serious incidents immediately to the Group Head of Quality and Compliance.
- Monitor key compliance arrangements, including contractor controls, PPE, emergency arrangements, first aid, statutory inspections, health surveillance where required, and relevant workplace documentation.
- Coordinate health and safety inductions, toolbox talks, refresher training and other safety communications, ensuring identified training requirements are completed and recorded.
- Provide regular health and safety performance reports, including incidents, trends, audit findings, corrective actions and areas requiring management attention.
Training and competence
- Maintain the group training matrix and help managers identify SHEQ training and refresher requirements.
- Coordinate internal and external training and retain accurate evidence of attendance, competence and expiry dates.
- Prepare or deliver proportionate briefings, inductions and toolbox talks within the role's competence.
About You
Essential Requirements
- NEBOSH General Certificate or recognised equivalent.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Practical experience in manufacturing, precast concrete, construction materials or a comparable higher-risk environment.
- Demonstrable ISO 9001 experience and/or practical QA experience within precast concrete; at least one is essential.
- Experience of inspections, risk assessment, COSHH, safe systems of work and incident investigation.
- Able to identify findings, establish actions, follow up closure and verify effectiveness.
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Able to build constructive working relationships and challenge appropriately.
- Able to work independently, prioritise competing risks and plan activity across two sites.
- Must be able to travel regularly between the two sites.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and able to maintain accurate records, trackers and reports.
- Proactive, credible, resilient, approachable and committed to integrity, learning and continuous improvement.
Desirable
- ISO 9001 internal-auditor qualification.
- Higher-level health and safety qualification or commitment to further development.
- Direct experience of precast concrete manufacture and construction-site activity.
- Experience of both ISO 9001 systems and precast concrete QA, including traceability, inspection and test records.
- Experience reviewing construction RAMS, lift plans and contractor controls.
- Experience of root-cause analysis, corrective action and external certification audits.
- Experience delivering inductions, toolbox talks or short training sessions.
- Experience working in a multi-site role.
- Experience using electronic audit, incident or quality-management systems.
- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.
