Smartkem, Inc. is creating a small, independent UK-based scientific team to explore new business opportunities. The new group will look for opportunities with commercial and academic organisations within the electronic materials domain. It is essential that all team members work flexibly to adapt to the changing needs of the new business and take a collaborative approach with colleagues and clients. Team members are expected to take part in business development activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Optimisation and scale up of formulation and chemical synthesis processes up to 20 l volume in house and beyond through toll partners.
- Provision of technical transfer packages for chemical synthesis and formulation manufacture.
- Working at toll facilities to ensure efficient process transfer.
- Manufacture of early lead support volumes of formulated products.
- Final filtration and packing of all products to electronic industry standards.
- Quality control testing of all formulations including advanced packaging materials, single layer UV cure formulations and light blocking layers.
- Sourcing and validation of raw materials to support scale up activities.
- Validation of scaled up formulations.
- Safe shipping of raw materials and formulations to clients at volumes required to support their fab trials and initial product manufacturing.
- Assist in with formulation development and characterisation of thin films.
- Maintaining accurate batch records of all products produced through the early lead support facility.
- Performing COSHH Assessments for all scale up activities.
- Manage and maintain all tools relating to pilot scale manufacture and QC test.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Has as working knowledge of chemistry with a background in synthesis and formulation disciplines with detailed understanding specific to organic semiconductor materials.
- Knowledge of requirements for shipping transport hazardous goods with IATA, ADR and IMDG qualifications. Must keep IATA, ADR and IMDG qualifications up to date.
- Knowledge of chemical process scale up and technical transfer.
- Experience of chemical and physical test methods, specifically those relating to formulation and surface coatings.
- Document control principles with application to a development environment.
- HSE/COSHH - a good understanding of HSE issues relating to chemicals that job holder (and co-workers) will be exposed to as part of daily laboratory work.

EXPERIENCE
- Degree level qualification (or higher) in chemistry or related discipline.
- Computer literate with programmes such as word, excel, etc.
- Able to work independently and on own initiative to further the goals of the business.
- Experience of chemical process scale up and technology transfer.
- Experience of working in a cross functional team with scientific, engineering, and operational staff is highly desirable.
Pay: £24,420.00-£67,531.94 per year
