About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Workshop Controller to lead our busy preparation centre workshop. This is a pivotal role responsible for controlling the daily workflow of the workshop, ensuring all vehicle preparation, PDI inspections, servicing, paint and mechanical repairs are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.
You will be responsible for coordinating technicians, managing workshop productivity, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring vehicles are prepared and ready within agreed timescales.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Control & Vehicle Preparation
- Control and coordinate the daily workload within the Preparation Centre.
- Allocate jobs effectively based on technician skill levels and workshop capacity.
- Oversee all vehicle preparation, PDI inspections, servicing, paint and mechanical repairs.
- Monitor vehicle progress and ensure work is completed within agreed deadlines.
- Prioritise workloads to maximise efficiency and minimise vehicle downtime.
Performance & Productivity
- Monitor technician productivity, efficiency, and utilisation.
- Ensure workshop targets and vehicle preparation deadlines are achieved.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and throughput.
- Support the management team with performance reporting and operational planning.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all work is completed to manufacturer and Group standards.
- Maintain high levels of quality control and first-time fix performance.
- Carry out final quality checks and vehicle inspections where required.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and workshop procedures.
Team Support
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to technicians and preparation staff.
- Assist with technician development and training requirements.
- Promote a positive, professional, and safety-focused working environment.
- Work closely with service, sales, and management teams to ensure smooth vehicle flow.
Parts & Resource Management
- Liaise closely with the Parts Department to ensure timely parts availability.
- Assist with parts identification and ordering when required.
- Parts department experience would be advantageous; however, full training will be provided to enable support and cover within the Parts Department when necessary.
- Monitor workshop equipment and resources to ensure efficient operation.
About You
You will be an organised and proactive automotive professional with strong technical knowledge and experience controlling workshop operations. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a strong focus on quality, efficiency, and teamwork.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Workshop Controller, Senior Technician, Team Leader, or similar automotive role.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle preparation, PDI inspections, and mechanical repairs.
- Excellent organisational and workload planning skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Experience working within a KPI-driven environment.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience within a franchised dealership environment.
- Škoda or Volkswagen Group experience.
- Parts department experience.
- Manufacturer training certifications.
