Full-Time Café & Kitchen Assistant
The HUB Café – Kent Science Park
Full-time | Monday to Friday
Start Date: Mid-September
The HUB Café at Kent Science Park is looking for a hardworking, enthusiastic and reliable team member to join our friendly family-run business.
This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You'll spend three days each week working in the kitchen and two days working front of house, giving you the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills while being part of a close-knit, supportive team.
Typical working hours: 7:30am – 2:30pm (these may vary depending on the needs of the business).
The RoleKitchen (3 days per week)
- Preparing fresh breakfasts and lunches
- Baking cakes and sweet treats
- Preparing salads and other fresh food
- Food preparation and stock rotation
- Maintaining high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness
Front of House (2 days per week)
- Serving customers with a friendly, professional attitude
- Preparing pre-packaged sandwiches and baguettes
- Stocking shelves and displays
- Operating the till
- Keeping the café clean, tidy and well presented
- Supporting the team during busy service periods
General Responsibilities
- Daily cleaning of the kitchen, café and food preparation areas
- Washing up and maintaining excellent hygiene standards
- Assisting with deliveries and stock organisation
- Following all food hygiene, health & safety and allergen awareness procedures at all times
- Ensuring food is prepared, stored and served safely to minimise the risk of allergen cross-contamination
- Maintaining accurate food labelling and communicating allergen information confidently to customers when required
- Working flexibly across all areas of the business as required
We're Looking For Someone Who Is
- Experienced in a busy café or commercial kitchen environment (essential)
- Has a good understanding of food hygiene and allergen awareness (Level 2 Food Hygiene and Allergen Awareness certificates are desirable but not essential)
- Hardworking and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Quick-thinking with excellent attention to detail
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
- A strong team player who is happy to get stuck in wherever needed
- Positive, friendly and confident when dealing with customers
- Willing to share ideas and contribute to the ongoing success of the business
- Comfortable with cleaning and maintaining high standards throughout the day
- Must have their own transport, as Kent Science Park is not easily accessible by public transport and early starts are required
