Purpose/scope of the job: Manage and maintain machines, equipment, building and related infrastructure, including planned and preventative maintenance to the required standard.
Keep the plant running by ensuring the equipment runs smoothly.
A key player contributing to the efficiency and reliability of production processes.
Main Duties
- To maintain machines, buildings and related infrastructure, including planned and reactive maintenance, to the required Quality, Food Safety, Health and Safety and Environmental standards.
- Monitor performance of machines in production and deal with any issues as and when they occur.
- Diagnose and resolve automation, electrical, and mechanical issues during breakdowns.
- Arrange servicing and calibration of specialist equipment.
- Ensure contractors under Facilities/maintenance control follow instructions correctly in order to minimize risk of food safety, health and safety and environmental incidents.
- General Maintenance: Undertake minor works as required (basic plumbing, carpentry, painting or electrical resets)
- To ensure that maintenance records and relevant documentation are kept up to date and retrievable for internal use, customer requirements, and statutory purposes and to ensure that critical equipment and instruments are maintained and calibrated to ensure compliance with the standard requirements.
- Actively participate in the control of maintenance costs when required, through maintenance activities or seeking alternatives
- Management of spares and parts to ensure critical spares are available for all key equipment.
- Commissioning new / modify equipment fault finding and diagnostics within the scope of ability
Experience, skills, and attributes required:
- A mechanically biased engineer with experience working in manufacturing / factory environments.
- HND/HNC Qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering would be preferential but not essential
- Electrical qualifications would be preferential
- Previous experience in maintenance of mechanical machinery, and in a food manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to deal with pressure to ensure equipment is back and running at the earliest opportunity

- To demonstrate excellent communication throughout the department and the business as a whole
- To be fully aware of the company’s Food Safety and Quality Policy ensuring that all operations are carried out in accordance with legislation, specified procedures and working practices, and to report any issues identified to a member of the Food Safety management team.

The salary for this position is up to £35K for full time 40 hours per week, pro rata for part time, depending on experience. The standard hours are an 8-hour day from Monday to Friday.
Job Type: Full or Part time 30 to 40 hours per week
Pension - Company Scheme - employer contribution 5%, employee contribution 5%
Holidays - 25 days per year plus 8 days bank holiday. Plus:
1 additional day paid annual leave per calendar year for each 2 full years of completed service, up to a maximum of 5 additional days.
