REPORTS TO: Business Operations Manager
ABOUT TREEFELLAS ARBORICULTURE.
Treefellas Arboriculture Ltd is a growing, specialist tree surgery and arboricultural consultancy firm based in the Peak District. Operating from a location with beautiful rural surroundings, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality commercial and domestic tree care. We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive Bookkeeper & Office Administrator to become an integral part of our small team.
THE ROLE
This varied role blends essential day-to-day bookkeeping with warm, effective customer service. You will keep our finances running smoothly while serving as the primary contact for telephone and email enquiries. As you settle into the role, you will have plenty of opportunity to learn about trees and our services so that you can confidently chat with clients and book quotes and jobs in the diary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Bookkeeping & Financial Administration
- Maintain purchase and sales ledgers using Sage Business Cloud Accounting.
- Perform bank reconciliations and process supplier payments.
- Prepare statutory VAT returns and process monthly payroll.
- Track outstanding invoices and politely chase late payments.
- Act as the internal point of contact for our external independent accountant.
Customer Enquiries & Office Administration
- Serve as the welcoming first point of contact for inbound telephone calls and email enquiries.
- Receive incoming quote requests, log job details accurately into our systems, and book site visits into the operational diary.
- Learn basic arboricultural concepts to answer initial customer questions about our services over time.
- Maintain electronic filing systems and accurate customer records, with good attention to detail.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or finance administration role.
- Direct experience with bank reconciliations, VAT returns, and payroll processing.
- Hands-on proficiency with Sage Business Cloud Accounting (or transferable skills from cloud platforms like Xero or QuickBooks).
- Excellent written and spoken English, with a confident, welcoming phone manner.
- High level of numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
- GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics.
- Comfortable working in a dog-friendly office environment.
Location & Transport:
- Having your own transport is helpful, but not strictly essential. Our current Hathersage location is a one-mile walk uphill from the bus stop and train station.
- Note: Within the next few months, our office will be relocating to our yard in Bamford, which is a much easier, short flat walk from Bamford train station and local bus routes.
Desirable:
- AAT Level 3 qualification (or working towards it).
- Good working knowledge of Google Workspace (including Calendar and Sheets) to interface with our booking systems.
- An interest in trees would be useful, but prior knowledge is certainly not essential.
- Comfortable adopting new internal software or bespoke booking apps.
WHAT WE OFFER
- A workplace set in the stunning surroundings of the Peak District.
- Friendly, supportive, and collaborative small-team culture.
- Direct line of support from our external accountant for complex financial queries.
