Flexible Tutors Required – Core Subjects (Sunderland & Surrounding Areas)
£30–£35 per hour (depending on experience)
Flexible Hours | Self-Managed Timetable | Rewarding Role
Are you a passionate and adaptable qualified teacher looking to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable young people?
We are looking for dedicated tutors to deliver 1:1 tuition in English, Maths and/or Science to students across Sunderland and the surrounding areas.
Our students are typically Children Looked After (CLA) or have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including significant anxiety and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Many are unable to attend mainstream education and benefit from personalised, relationship-based learning.
The Role
You will provide engaging, individualised tuition tailored to each student's needs and abilities.
- Deliver 1:1 tuition in core subjects (English, Maths and/or Science).
- Sessions are usually 1–2 hours in length.
- Students typically receive tuition 2–5 times per week.
- Tuition takes place in public libraries, community venues or students' homes, depending on individual circumstances.
- Plan engaging lessons that meet each student's educational needs.
- Complete brief session feedback reports and contribute to ongoing progress monitoring.
- Build trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience and re-engagement with learning.
What We're Looking For
- Have experience teaching or tutoring young people.
- Are confident delivering one or more core subjects.
- Understand the needs of young people with SEMH, anxiety and trauma-informed backgrounds.
- Can adapt their teaching style to meet individual learning needs.
- Are patient, reliable and able to build positive, professional relationships.
- Are organised and comfortable planning their own sessions and completing short written reports.
- Hold an enhanced DBS certificate (or are willing to obtain one).
Essential Requirements
- Access to your own vehicle and a full driving licence is essential, as travel between tuition venues is required.
- Ability to travel across Sunderland and surrounding areas.
- Right to work in the UK.
What We Offer
- £30–£35 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Flexible working hours that fit around your availability.
- A rewarding role where you can make a genuine impact on a young person's future.
- Ongoing support from an experienced education team.
- Opportunities for additional students and increased hours.
If you're committed to helping vulnerable young people overcome barriers to education through patience, consistency and high-quality teaching, we'd love to hear from you.
