Smart Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Shift Supervisor on behalf of our client, a leading waste processing and resource recovery business operating a state-of-the-art processing facility.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated operational leader with experience within waste management, recycling, manufacturing, or high-volume processing environments to join a growing and innovative organisation.
The Role
As Shift Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day running of operations during your shift, ensuring the safe, efficient, and productive operation of the facility. You will be responsible for supervising personnel, maintaining production standards, achieving operational targets, and ensuring compliance with all health and safety procedures.
You will play a key role in driving operational excellence, developing teams, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary operational lead during your shift, ensuring Production and General Managers are kept informed of key developments.
- Take ownership of shift activities, including workforce supervision, production output, quality standards, and performance targets.
- Drive high operational standards in line with company procedures, KPIs, and safety systems.
- Lead, coach, and develop team members while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Monitor shift performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and minimise downtime.
- Maintain clear communication across departments, including detailed shift handovers.
- Complete operational documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety-first culture across all site activities.
- Lead problem-solving activities and root cause investigations, implementing effective corrective actions.
- Work closely with fellow Shift Supervisors to ensure consistency across all shifts.
- Support training and development programmes to meet operational requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects and business growth initiatives.
- Maintain high housekeeping and cleanliness standards throughout the facility.
- Ensure company resources are utilised responsibly and cost-effectively.
- Lead by example and promote company values, policies, and procedures.
Experience Required
- Previous supervisory experience within a high-volume processing, manufacturing, recycling, waste management, or industrial environment.
- Engineering, maintenance, or electrical experience.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience within the waste and recycling industry is highly desirable.
- Experience operating and overseeing plant, machinery, and processing equipment.
- Proven ability to manage performance and drive operational improvements.
Qualifications & Knowledge
- Good standard of written and spoken English.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safety culture.
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced operational environment.
