Detached Youth Worker – Piccadilly Gardens Project

About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled and committed Detached Youth Worker to join our team delivering youth work within Piccadilly Gardens and Manchester City Centre.
This is an exciting opportunity to engage with young people where they choose to spend their time, building trusted relationships through open-access, voluntary and relationship-based youth work. Working as part of a detached youth work team, you will support young people to have their voices heard, access opportunities, develop confidence and resilience, and make positive choices.
The role is delivered in line with Manchester Detached Youth Work Protocols and places young people's participation, wellbeing and aspirations at the heart of the work.
What You'll Be Doing
- Deliver detached youth work sessions in Piccadilly Gardens and surrounding city-centre locations.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with young people aged 11–19 (up to 25 where appropriate).
- Engage young people through informal conversations, support and youth-led activities.
- Provide information, advice, guidance and signposting to appropriate services.
- Support young people to participate in decisions that affect their lives and communities.
- Promote inclusion, equality and positive outcomes for all young people.
- Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
- Complete recording, monitoring and evaluation requirements.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies across Manchester.
What We're Looking For

- Has experience of working directly with children and young people.
- Understands youth work values and relationship-based practice.
- Can engage positively with diverse groups of young people in community settings.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is committed to safeguarding, equality and inclusion.
- Can work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
- Is reflective, resilient and passionate about supporting young people.
Experience of detached, outreach or street-based youth work is desirable but not essential.
Working Pattern
The role includes detached youth work delivery on:
Tuesday to Friday, 4.00pm – 7.00pm
Additional contracted hours will be used for planning, recording, supervision, training and team meetings.
