Aspira Education is recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary setting in the OX2 7JN area of Oxford.
The school supports children aged 5–11 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, with pupils having Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
This is a long-term role working with pupils who benefit from a calm, consistent and nurturing approach. You’ll work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to help pupils regulate their emotions, engage with learning and build confidence both academically and socially.
The role
You will:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and additional needs
- Support children with emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Help pupils engage with classroom learning and structured activities
- Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils
- Support pupils during challenging moments and help them return positively to learning
- Work closely with teachers and other support staff
- Help create a safe, positive and nurturing learning environment
Who we're looking for
Previous school or SEN experience is beneficial, but we are also interested in people with transferable experience.
You may have worked in:
- Youth work
- Residential childcare
- Children's support work
- Mental health or care settings
- Sports coaching
- Behaviour mentoring
- SEN or mainstream schools
More important than the exact background is your ability to remain calm, resilient and consistent while building genuine relationships with children who may have had difficult experiences within education.
