We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Mentor/Tutor to support and guide vulnerable young people in their personal and academic development. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in special education and tutoring/teaching, with the ability to effectively communicate and engage with young people. As a Youth Mentor, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive learning environment, helping to educate and inspire youth to reach their full potential. The role will require a full driving licence and access to business cover, paid for by YMCA.
Responsibilities:
Deliver Maths and English at Functional Skills and where required, vocational courses and life skills programmes.
Provide one-on-one mentoring to youth, focusing on personal growth and academic achievement.
Deliver sessions at Manchester YMCA's alternative provision sites in Castlefield and Whalley range, other schools in Manchester, Trafford and Salford and within the community.
Develop and implement tailored educational plans that cater to the individual needs of each child.
Deliver tutoring sessions in Maths and English, ensuring comprehension of subject matter.
Foster a supportive and encouraging atmosphere that promotes self-esteem and confidence among mentees.
Communicate regularly with schools, parents or guardians regarding progress and areas for improvement.
Collaborate with educational staff to create a cohesive support system for each child.
Maintain accurate records of mentoring sessions, progress reports, and any relevant observations.
Take part in internal and external CPD.
Requirements:
Experience working with children, particularly in an educational or mentoring capacity.
Background in special education or tutoring is highly desirable.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both children and adults.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Flexibility in adapting mentoring approaches based on individual needs and circumstances.
Own car, full driving licence and access to business cover.
