Out of Hours On-Call Carer

Location
Home-based, with occasional travel required to support clients and carers in the community.
Job Purpose
The Out of Hours On-Call Carer provides support and assistance to carers and clients outside normal office hours. The role ensures continuity of care, responds to emergencies or service issues, and helps maintain safe and effective care delivery at all times.
Working Hours
Weekdays:
- On-call duty operates from 5:00 PM until 9:00 AM the following morning.
Weekends:
- On-call duty operates from 5:00 PM on Friday until 9:00 AM on Monday.
- Weekend on-call responsibilities may be shared between two designated on-call carers.
Key ResponsibilitiesOut of Hours Support
- Carry the company works phone during designated on-call periods.
- Receive and respond promptly to out of hours calls from carers, clients, family members and other relevant professionals.
- Provide advice, guidance and support to carers and clients as required.
- Handle emergencies and unexpected situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Escalate concerns to management when necessary.
Care Coordination
- Use the company's electronic rostering system to monitor care delivery.
- Reallocate care calls where necessary to ensure continuity of service.
- Arrange cover for unallocated, missed or emergency calls.
- Support carers experiencing difficulties whilst delivering care.
Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate records of all incoming calls and actions taken.
- Record:
- Name of caller
- Date and time of call
- Nature of the issue
- Actions taken and outcome
- Complete a comprehensive handover for the office team each Monday morning and after each on-call shift where required.
Community Support
- Although primarily home-based, attend clients' homes or visit carers in the community when required.
- Provide practical support during emergencies, service disruptions, staff shortages or client welfare concerns.
- Ensure all care is delivered in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Person SpecificationEssential Requirements
- Previous experience working in a domiciliary care setting.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
- Competent in using mobile phones, computers and electronic rostering systems.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Flexible and reliable approach to work.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience of care coordination or rostering.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
- Understanding of CQC standards and regulatory requirements.

Additional Information
This role carries significant responsibility and requires the post holder to be available throughout the designated on-call period. The successful candidate must be able to respond promptly to calls, provide effective support, and ensure the continuity and safety of care services outside normal office hours.
Pay: £12.80 per hour
