We are looking for a Geotechnical Manager to join our Scotland-based Work Winning team, supporting major infrastructure and civil engineering opportunities across the UK.
This is a unique opportunity to combine your technical geotechnical expertise with commercial influence, playing a key role in shaping winning tenders and supporting project delivery from concept through to construction.
What you'll be doing
The Opportunity
Reporting into the Pre-Construction and Estimating leadership team, you'll provide specialist geotechnical and earthworks expertise across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing earthworks and geotechnical strategies for major tender opportunities.
- Reviewing ground investigation data, specifications and design information.
- Assessing soil suitability, material re-use opportunities, contaminated land issues and disposal strategies.
- Producing detailed earthworks quantities, material balances and cost estimates.
- Working closely with estimators, planners, designers and bid teams to develop innovative and efficient construction solutions.
- Supporting value engineering initiatives to improve project outcomes and competitiveness.
- Advising on borrow pits, material sourcing, waste management and environmental considerations.
- Managing geotechnical and earthworks-related risks and opportunities throughout the tender process.
- Supporting operational project teams through effective handover and technical guidance.
- Building strong relationships with clients, designers, supply chain partners and internal stakeholders.
- Mentoring junior colleagues and sharing technical expertise across the business.
Who we're looking for
We would love to hear from candidates with:
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Soil Mechanics or a related discipline.
- Strong experience within geotechnical engineering, earthworks, highways, rail, energy, utilities or major infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of soil mechanics, earthworks specification, contaminated land and material management.
- Experience preparing or supporting tenders, cost planning, estimates or technical proposals.
- Understanding of environmental and regulatory requirements relating to earthworks and waste management.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Chartered or working towards chartership with ICE, CIOB, RICS or another relevant professional body.
