Part Time | Hybrid | Wallingford (OX10) | £35,000–£40,000 FTE (pro-rated) + Profit Share
Be the technical expert behind a growing practice.
At Directive Finance, we're building a different kind of accountancy practice.
We're modern, cloud-based and proactive, working closely with ambitious business owners who value clear advice, responsive support and accurate financial information. As we've grown, so has the complexity of the work we deliver, and we're now looking for someone to take ownership of our tax and compliance function.
This isn't just another tax role.
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys tax, has excellent technical knowledge and takes pride in getting things right. You'll become the final technical review before work reaches our clients, helping maintain the high standards our practice is known for.
If you're someone who spots issues others miss, enjoys solving problems and wants real ownership within a growing practice, we'd love to hear from you.
The Role
As our Practice Tax & Accounts Specialist, you'll be responsible for the preparation, review and quality control of tax and compliance work across the practice.
Working closely with our founder and wider team, you'll ensure returns are accurate, deadlines are met and opportunities to add value for clients aren't missed.
You'll also become the team's go-to person for tax queries, giving you the opportunity to make a genuine impact as the practice continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
You'll be responsible for:
- Preparing Self Assessment tax returns (SA100s)
- Preparing Corporation Tax returns (CT600s) and tax computations
- Preparing annual accounts
- Reviewing VAT returns before submission
- Preparing P11Ds and Benefits in Kind
- Managing HMRC correspondence and enquiries
- Reviewing and quality checking work prepared by the wider team before submission
- Completing tax reviews for new clients, identifying risks and opportunities from historical filings
- Monitoring tax deadlines across the client portfolio
- Supporting clients with straightforward tax planning, including:
- Director salary and dividend planning
- Pension contributions
- Child Benefit and childcare threshold planning
- Supporting the practice through the rollout of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who enjoys technical work and wants to become an integral part of a growing practice.
You'll ideally have:
- ATT qualification (or working towards), or ACA, ACCA or AAT with a strong tax background
- Solid experience preparing Self Assessment and Corporation Tax returns within an accountancy practice (essential)
- Experience preparing statutory accounts
- Excellent attention to detail and a natural ability to identify issues before they become problems
- Confidence communicating directly with clients in plain English
- The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise effectively
- Experience using cloud accounting software (Xero preferred)
- A proactive mindset - you raise concerns early, ask questions and always look for better ways of working
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 3–6 months:
- Personal and Corporation Tax returns are prepared accurately and submitted on time
- Annual accounts are completed efficiently and to a high standard
- HMRC deadlines are consistently monitored and met
- Errors are identified before reaching clients
- Clients receive clear, confident support with their tax queries
- The wider team benefits from your technical expertise and guidance
- The founder is able to step back from day-to-day technical tax work, knowing it's in safe hands
