Job Description:
Unisurge is looking to appoint an experienced Transport Manager who will be responsible for the transport Operations function, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation through the efforts of a well-managed and engaged workforce.
Location: Unisurge International Limited, Farboud Innovation Park, Formula Drive, Newmarket, CB8 0BF
This position is based in Newmarket but travel to our Castleford site will be required.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Line management of our team of drivers and all legal O licence compliance.
- Monitoring and maintaining fleet cleanliness.
- Scheduling and managing planned maintenance of fleet through agreed providers
- To manage all training and development needs for driver colleagues.
- Monitoring of transport legal compliance issues including Health & Safety, '0' licence requirements and driver hours.
- Two operating centres for business so travelling will be required. Company vehicle provided for travel.
- Provide direction that supports the Senior Management team in ensuring the Transport Operation runs efficiently and effectively.
- Scheduling and managing planned maintenance of our dedicated fleet.
- Ensure effective communication throughout the Company.
- Identify opportunities to further improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure resources are allocated to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Contribute to the resolution of client queries and disputes including all POD discrepancies.
- To promote Company Standards in all situations.
- To deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed, and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above.
- To carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of Logistics.
Principal relationships:
- Accountable to Head of Logistics Manager.
- Responsible for- Management of transport operations and full legal compliance.
- Internal-Will work closely with peer group in own department and across all functions ensuring that all projects and continuous improvement activities are well thought out and delivered on time.
- External- Maintains external contacts as necessary.
Essential and Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
Essential
- Experience of management of a team to achieve daily and weekly tasks through organisation, delegation and prioritisation.
- Previous experience working with POD father, Samsara, Aquarius or equivalent telematics and tracking software.
- Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) National or equivalent Full driving licence as you may be required to travel (HGV Licence an advantage).
- Two Operating centres in operation so inter site travelling will be required. Company vehicle provided for use.
- Significant knowledge and experience of all transport and driver regulations
- Experience of working with third party driving agencies, ideally combined with some knowledge of agency legislation although this will be supported.
- A solution provider in a change culture working collaboratively with other departments to make change happen effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to influence internal and external stakeholders through clear, concise business cases, disseminate information appropriately, adaptation of your communication style in line with audience and situation and communicate effectively with urgency and direction.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload to meet conflicting, frequently demanding, deadlines.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office including intermediate MS PowerPoint, and Excel skills for data analysis and presentation to influence business cases e.g. pivot tables, graphs etc.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
Desirable
- Fors accreditation.
- ISO 390001 standards preferable.
