Working Hours
- Monday to Friday, 12:00pm – 8:00pm
- 2-week rolling rota
- Flexibility required to cover alternative shifts when needed:
- 7:00am – 3:00pm
- 10:00am – 6:00pm
Part-time hours may also be available for the right candidate.
Job Overview
Abacus Laundry Ltd is looking for a reliable and hardworking Laundry Assistant to join our busy commercial laundry operation in Plymouth.
This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in delivering high standards of cleanliness and customer service. While primarily based in the laundry, there will be opportunities to support delivery runs when required, so driving experience is preferred but not essential.
Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
Laundry Duties
- Sort, process, and handle linen according to company procedures
- Operate commercial laundry equipment (washers, dryers, irons, folding machines)
- Ensure all linen meets high hygiene and presentation standards
- Fold and prepare towels, bed linen, and table linen
- Bag, label, and prepare orders for dispatch
- Identify and report damaged or stained linen
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workspace
Delivery Duties (Cover Only)
- Assist with collection and delivery of laundry to customer sites
- Drive a company electric van safely and responsibly
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness and readiness
- Report any delivery issues or vehicle faults
General Duties
- Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures
- Report faults or maintenance issues promptly
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages
- Support wider team duties when required
Requirements:
Essential
- Reliable, punctual, and strong work ethic
- Good physical fitness (manual handling required)
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
Desirable
- Previous experience in laundry, hospitality, or warehouse environments
- Experience as a Laundry Assistant, Linen Porter, or similar role
- UK driving licence (preferred for cover driving duties)
