Blue Phoenix is the UK market leader in the processing and sale of Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate (IBAA), providing sustainable aggregate solutions to the construction and civil engineering industries.
Operating 10 facilities across the UK and processing approximately 1.5 million tonnes of Incinerator Bottom Ash each year, we play a vital role in supporting the circular economy by recovering valuable materials and reducing reliance on landfill.
We are seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead our laboratory operations, ensuring the highest standards of testing, quality assurance, compliance, and safety.
The Role
As Laboratory Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of laboratory activities, ensuring all testing, analysis, and reporting is completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with business and regulatory requirements.
You will lead laboratory personnel, manage testing programmes, oversee laboratory equipment and resources, and provide technical support to operational teams across the business. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily laboratory operations and testing schedules.
- Ensure all testing is completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, and testing standards.
- Analyse and interpret laboratory data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Produce reports and communicate findings to management and operational teams.
- Manage sample receipt, storage, traceability, and retention processes.
- Promote high standards of housekeeping, organisation, and laboratory safety.
- Support investigations relating to product quality and process performance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within laboratory operations.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.
About You

Essential
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent organisational and planning abilities.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Desirable
- Previous laboratory, quality assurance, or testing experience.
- Experience within the waste, recycling, aggregates, construction materials, or environmental sectors.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and laboratory testing standards.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
