The Team
Our Business Services Team is dedicated to building strong client relationships and helping small businesses grow with confidence. We act as a fully supportive outsourced finance function, delivering services including bookkeeping, VAT returns, confirmation statements, management accounts, and advisory support.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and forward-thinking team while studying towards your AAT qualification. You will gain hands-on experience across a varied client portfolio, developing both your technical accounting knowledge and your professional skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.
About the Role
As an AAT Trainee, you will work closely with senior team members to support the delivery of high-quality services to our clients. This role offers structured training, mentoring, and real client exposure from day one.
You will build practical experience in bookkeeping, VAT, reconciliations, and management accounts preparation while developing strong communication, organisation, and commercial awareness skills within a modern cloud-accounting environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with bookkeeping for a varied portfolio of clients using cloud accounting software (including Xero and Dext)
- Processing purchase and sales invoices, ensuring correct nominal and VAT coding
- Recording transactions from online sales platforms and maintaining accurate financial records
- Performing bank and credit card reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
- Supporting the preparation of VAT returns and maintaining compliant records
- Assisting with the preparation of management accounts
- Helping prepare and submit confirmation statements and other Companies House filings
- Responding to client queries and supporting senior team members with ad hoc tasks
- Developing a strong understanding of accounting systems, internal controls, and best practice processes
- Ensuring all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and within deadlines
What We’re Looking For
- A strong interest in pursuing a career in accountancy
- Studying towards (or planning to start) an AAT qualification
- Basic understanding of double-entry bookkeeping principles (desirable but not essential)
- Good attention to detail and organisational skills
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
- Strong communication skills
- Comfortable working with technology and cloud-based software
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (Grade 5/C or above preferred)
