Location: Hesdin Estate
Hours: 24 hours per week (required to work til 6PM Monday and Friday)
Salary: £14.50
Role Overview
As Assistant Housekeeping Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring that every Hesdin Estate property consistently meets the standards expected of our guests.
This is a hands-on, standards-focused role. Your primary responsibility is to ensure that The Hesdin Way is understood, followed and consistently delivered by the housekeeping team.
You will work closely with the Housekeeping Manager to oversee the day-to-day housekeeping operation, with a particular focus on quality, presentation, consistency, inspections, training and team standards.
You will be regularly present across the estate, checking properties, supporting housekeeping teams, identifying issues and ensuring that anything which falls below standard is addressed before a guest arrives.
You will also provide practical support to the Housekeeping Manager with staffing, changeover coordination, systems, stock and administration.
You will need to be confident using computers and digital systems, as this position requires updating of visual training tools, accurate record keeping, communication and use of our operational systems are an important part of the role.
Key Responsibilities
The Hesdin Way & Housekeeping Standards
- Become an expert in The Hesdin Way and ensure it is consistently understood and followed across the housekeeping team.
- Act as a visible champion of Hesdin's housekeeping standards.
- Regularly inspect properties to ensure they meet the required standard of cleanliness, presentation, detail and guest readiness.
- Carry out pre-arrival checks and sign-offs where required.
- Identify areas where standards have slipped and ensure they are corrected.
- Pay close attention to the details that make the difference between a property being simply clean and being genuinely guest-ready.
- Ensure housekeeping checklists, photographs, SOPs and other standards documents are being followed correctly.
- Monitor recurring quality issues and identify where additional training, support or process changes are required.
- Ensure team members understand not just what needs to be done, but why it matters to the guest experience.
- Challenge poor standards appropriately and consistently.
- Escalate repeated or serious performance concerns to the Housekeeping Manager.
Quality Control & Inspections
- Conduct regular inspections across all Hesdin properties.
- Complete and maintain accurate inspection records.
- Check bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, communal areas, outdoor areas and guest-facing details.

- Identify maintenance, damage, stock or presentation issues and ensure they are reported through the correct process.
- Follow up on previously identified issues to ensure they have actually been resolved.

- Use photographs and digital records where required to demonstrate standards and identify areas for improvement.
Team Support & Daily Coordination
- Support the Housekeeping Manager with the day-to-day coordination of the housekeeping team.
- Act as a point of contact for housekeepers during working hours.
- Help allocate work and respond to operational issues during busy changeover days.
- Monitor progress throughout changeovers and identify potential delays early.
- Support new and existing team members with practical guidance and coaching.
- Lead by example through your own approach to presentation, communication, reliability and attention to detail.
- Help create a positive but accountable housekeeping culture where high standards are expected and supported.
- Support the Housekeeping Manager with attendance, performance and conduct concerns where appropriate.
- Escalate issues that cannot be resolved at Assistant Manager level.
Training & Development
- Support the induction and training of new housekeeping team members.
- Ensure new starters understand The Hesdin Way and the standards expected of them.
- Deliver or support practical standards training where required.
- Identify gaps in individual or team knowledge and recommend additional training.
- Help maintain and improve housekeeping training materials and SOPs.
- Monitor whether training is being applied correctly in practice, rather than simply completed.
- Support ongoing coaching and development of the housekeeping team.
Changeover Day Operations
- Support the Housekeeping Manager in coordinating housekeeping activity during changeovers.
- Monitor property progress throughout the day.
- Carry out inspections as properties become ready.
- Identify problems early and coordinate appropriate solutions.
- Work with the housekeeping team, maintenance and other operational teams to ensure properties are ready for guest arrival.
- Prioritise tasks appropriately when time is limited.
- Ensure the focus remains on guest readiness, quality and presentation, rather than simply completing a cleaning task list.
Stock, Equipment & Property Readiness
- Monitor housekeeping equipment, cleaning products, guest amenities and consumables.
- Identify low stock, damaged equipment or missing items and report or action these appropriately.
- Support the Housekeeping Manager with stock checks and stock control.
- Ensure housekeeping teams have the equipment and materials required to complete their work to the correct standard.

- Ensure important information is passed to the correct person promptly.
- Work closely with the Housekeeping Manager to ensure they have an accurate picture of standards, staffing and operational issues.
- Build strong working relationships with housekeeping, maintenance, guest services and management.
- Raise concerns early rather than allowing issues to develop into guest-facing problems.
Continuous Improvement
- Look for ways to improve housekeeping standards, efficiency and consistency.
- Identify recurring problems and help develop practical solutions.
- Contribute to the development of SOPs, checklists, training and inspection processes.
- Provide constructive feedback to the Housekeeping Manager about what is and isn't working.
- Help ensure that improvements introduced by management are consistently adopted by the housekeeping team.
