At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Permit to work authoriser to join our team.
This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield, will supporting our maintenance team in our machine shop.
As a Permit to work authoriser, you will play a key role in ensuring all Permit to Work (PTW) activities are planned, authorised, coordinated, and completed safely and efficiently. Acting as the focal point for the PTW system, you'll manage permit issuance, isolations, and the coordination of contractor and employee activities while maintaining compliance with company procedures and safety standards.
Working closely with Operations, Engineering and Project teams, you'll coordinate maintenance and project work to ensure activities are carried out safely with minimal impact on production. The role involves forward planning of permitted work, managing multiple concurrent activities, responding to changing site conditions and urgent work requests, and carrying out workplace inspections and audits to maintain a safe and controlled working environment.
What you’ll be doing

Manage the Permit to Work (PTW) system, ensuring all activities are planned, authorised, coordinated and completed safely.

Review risk assessments, method statements (RAMS) and work scopes before authorising work.

Verify permits are completed correctly and all safety controls are in place before work begins.

Coordinate contractors, employees and simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) to prevent conflicting activities and maintain a safe working environment.

Ensure isolations, control measures and permit conditions remain effective throughout the duration of work.

Conduct workplace inspections, audits and quality checks to maintain compliance with PTW procedures and site standards.

Monitor live work activities, identifying and addressing unsafe conditions or emerging risks.

Maintain accurate permit records, PTW boards and tracking systems.

Lead PTW coordination meetings and communicate updates to key stakeholders across Operations, Engineering and Projects.

Provide guidance, coaching and support to employees and contractors on PTW requirements and safe systems of work.
About You

Proven knowledge and experience of Permit to Work (PTW) systems.

Strong understanding of risk assessment processes and RAMS.

The Working Pattern
This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 745am-4pm
