Building Maintenance Officer – Housing
Hours: 21 Hours Per Week
Contract: 30 Weeks Temporary Contract
We're recruiting a Building Maintenance Officer to support Council's Education property portfolio. This is a technical role, ideal for someone experienced in building maintenance, surveying, and compliance, with the ability to provide professional advice and oversee planned, reactive, and legislative maintenance activities.
About the Role
As a Building Maintenance Officer, you'll provide building maintenance services across Education properties, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and supporting refurbishment and improvement schemes. You'll work closely with the Access & School Places Team and the Building Maintenance Team within Assets to deliver safe, compliant, and effective property services.
What you'll be doing:
- Providing professional building surveying services and technical advice
- Organising and procuring planned and reactive maintenance and refurbishment works
- Reviewing condition surveys and preparing technical recommendations and budget estimates
- Assisting with tender documentation, feasibility studies, cost plans, and contractor payments
- Ensuring compliance with Council Standing Orders, Financial Regulations, and Health & Safety procedures
- Supporting planning and coordination of maintenance and new installations in Education properties
- Maintaining awareness of new developments, products, and legislative changes
- Liaising with internal departments, external agencies, contractors, and consultants
- Providing technical assistance and guidance on building maintenance issues
- Travelling across Wrexham County Borough to visit sites and attend meetings
What We're Looking For
We're seeking candidates with:
- Experience in building maintenance, surveying, or construction-related roles
- Knowledge of statutory building maintenance procedures and compliance requirements
- Strong technical skills in design, detailing, and specification writing
- Ability to review condition surveys and provide accurate recommendations
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to travel across Wrexham County Borough for site visits and meetings
Desirable:
- HNC or equivalent qualification in a building-related subject
- Experience preparing tender documentation and managing contractor payments
- Knowledge of Welsh language and culture
