Optical Assistant – Prescription & Order Processing
£27,500 + Benefits
Glasgow City Centre
Are you an experienced Optical Assistant with strong knowledge of frames, lenses and prescriptions who enjoys the technical and operational side of optics, but would like to move away from constant face-to-face retail interaction?
We're recruiting for a rapidly expanding optical and online retail business looking to strengthen its Prescription & Order Processing team in Glasgow City Centre.
This is a great opportunity to use your optical knowledge in a busy, fast-paced operational environment, where the team collectively manages and triages several hundred orders each week and helps ensure customers receive their eyewear accurately and on time.
The Role
Working at the key point between the prescription customer, ordering and production process, you'll help manage and process more than 100 spectacle and sunglasses orders each day, ensuring accuracy, maintaining workflow and providing a high standard of customer service throughout the online prescription journey.
You'll be responsible for:
- Managing and processing 100+ spectacle and sunglasses orders daily
- Processing and checking prescription orders for accuracy and completeness
- Triaging and prioritising orders according to urgency and turnaround requirements
- Handling inbound and outbound customer calls to support the online prescription experience
- Liaising with prescription customers regarding orders, updates and queries
- Monitoring workflow and order progress to ensure deadlines are achieved
- Identifying and escalating issues that could impact turnaround times
- Working closely with internal teams to ensure orders move smoothly from ordering through to production
- Helping maintain smooth, accurate and efficient operational processes
This is not a patient-facing or dispensing role; customer interaction will instead be predominantly online and by telephone, with the position acting as a key link between the customer, ordering and production process.
Who We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in speaking with experienced Optical Assistants who can demonstrate:
- Previous experience working within an optical environment
- Strong product knowledge across frames and lenses
- A good understanding of optical prescriptions and prescription eyewear
- Confidence working across various computer systems and software
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail
- The ability to accurately manage high volumes of work and competing priorities
- A proactive, energetic and customer-focused approach
- Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to identify and escalate potential issues
- A genuine passion for optics and delivering a great customer experience
This could particularly suit someone currently working within an optician who enjoys the technical and process-driven elements of their role but would welcome the opportunity to use that experience away from constant face-to-face customer interaction.
If you're the person colleagues rely on to keep things organised, accurate and on track, this could be an excellent next move.
