The Role
Control Room Operative
- The Security Control Room Officer will be responsible for using best practices to identify and support all incidents that are either impactful or potentially impactful to business, the brand and or employees.
- The Security Control Room Officer will monitor cameras and alarms, dispatch associated calls via telephone and radio, operate access control technology. Security Control Room Officer will escalate both crisis and non-crisis incidents to their line manager and the senior security management team, overall, as per standard operating procedures.
- The nature of the role is such that it is essential that the post holder has and will maintain an excellent record of attendance and timekeeping.
- To monitor and administer all aspects of the Control Centre technology systems including Access Control, CCTV, Intercoms, Lift Controls, and Fire Command Panel.
- To assist and monitor the Security Team to respond to incidents.
- To ensure all incoming telephone calls are answered in a timely manner.
- To ensure that all critical alarms are actioned in a timely manner.
- Ensure Policies and Procedures are followed.
- To administer card issuance to contractors within the UOL guidelines and procedures, and to oversee their supervision.
- To assist in the training of stand in team members.
- To monitor access, egress of personnel, and respond to breaches.
- To be responsible for the compliance and administration of Control Centre records and assist the Security Supervisors in conducting monthly audits.
- To be responsible for the administration, issue and return of all keys, and radio communication equipment and audit compliance.
- To ensure that all incidents, which occur during your duties, are reported promptly and recorded within the guidelines laid down by the University of London, efficiently dealt with, and escalated.
- To ensure integrity of the security systems is maintained.
- To complete the Control Centre hand over sheet at the end of each shift and ensure that any outstanding issues are handed over.
- To comply with data protection guidelines regarding disclosure of personal and confidential information held on the security databases.
- To run reports and view CCTV footage as directed by the Security Supervisors or Security Manager
- To co-ordinate daily team duties.
- To promptly report all system faults.
- To maintain a key element of the control centre function by utilising the technology available to ensure that as far as possible the building remains secure, and any suspicious activity is noted.
- To conduct a patrol of the premises using CCTV internally and externally and the patrol book, noting the results.
- Any other duties deemed to be appropriate or necessary to the post.
- Develop teamwork within the workforce, ensuring high morale through effective motivational methods.
- To assist in any security / equipment investigations, i.e., thefts, missing items, complaints etc.
- Provide customer / client liaison as and when required.
- Ensure Assignment Instructions are always adhered to by security and shipping personnel.
- Ensure that any important messages are conveyed in the Security Handover and that all security personnel read and acknowledge them.
Ensuring security records and logs are being kept up to date.

Essential:
This job involves undertaking duties which include the following health, safety and wellbeing considerations:
- Good standard of IT skills
- Regular use of Screen Display Equipment experience
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy
- Night work/Shift work flexibility is essential.
Desirable
- Good command of GDPR Regulations related to the Security Industry
- A Current Door Supervisor Course & Public Space Surveillance certificate issued by a training body accredited by the Security Industry Authority.
- A Current certificate of competence in First Aid at Work issued by a training organisation that has been A Security Officer / Control Room Operator / Estates/Campus Security
- A Knowledge, skills and experience Essential Desirable Assessed via* Excellent oral communication skills and good listening skills (including the ability to clearly relay information in person and via a radio communication system
- Excellent written communication skills to effectively provide clear incident reports.
- A Proven ability to make decisions, appropriate to the situation, working within provided guidelines.
- Ability and willingness to work flexibly, to make a positive contribution within an established team.
- Be able to demonstrate ability to meet the physical requirements of the role in order to perform patrolling and emergency response duties.
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team as appropriate and lead by example.
- Ability to receive, interpret and act on instructions quickly and effectively.
- Demonstrable skills in observation and ability to appraise situations quickly and effectively.
- The ability to build and maintain good working relationships with staff, students, contractors and visitors.
- A Knowledge and experience of a customer focussed working environment, with the awareness and the ability to always provide a high-quality service.
Previous experience of working as a member of a diverse team.
