£15.00 per hour PAYE plus holiday pay accrued separately. Full-time weekday role supporting a gentleman with a brain injury living at home in Durham (DH1). Active, varied, mature role for a reliable, positive man with good communication skills and a full driving licence.
About the role
We're recruiting a male Support Worker to work Monday to Friday supporting a gentleman in his 40s living at home in Durham (DH1). He lives with the effects of a brain injury and is looking for a steady, reliable support worker to help him maintain his routine, community engagement, and independence.
This is a supportive role rather than a hands-on care role. The right person will bring calm reliability, mature judgement, and the confidence to be genuinely helpful without ever taking over.
The shift pattern
Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week across two shift patterns:
- Early shift: 6:00am to 2:00pm (8 hours)
- Late shift: 8:00am to 4:00pm (8 hours)
You'll work a mix of both patterns across the week, agreed in advance. No weekends, no overnights, home by mid-afternoon every day.
What the role involves
- Supporting him with his morning routine on early shifts, including assistance with dressing (no toileting support required)
- Supporting community access, driving, and daily activities
- Companionship and conversation throughout the working day
- Supporting him through appointments where needed
- Accurate care recording via a digital care system
- Working closely with him, his family, and the wider team
The role is varied and active. You'll be on your feet, driving, and involved in the flow of his day rather than sitting still.
What we're looking for
This isn't a first-job-in-care role. It's a role for a mature, secure, capable man who understands that supporting someone's independence and dignity is different from delivering task-based care.
Essential:
- Male applicant (this is a Genuine Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010)
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle (all business mileage paid at 45p per mile)
- Physically fit and active for a hands-on role
- Excellent communication skills and clear spoken English
- Mature, reliable, and secure presence
- The right to work in the UK without sponsorship. We do not offer visa sponsorship for this role.
Desirable (helpful but not essential):
- Experience supporting someone with a brain injury or similar neurological condition
- Interest in fitness, sport, or active lifestyles
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
