About the role
We are looking for a dedicated, caring and enthusiastic Nursery SENCO to join our team at The Cabin at Wolseley Hub in September.
We are open 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday, term-time only. (38 weeks a year)
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference to young children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive.
Working with children aged 2-4 years in a mixed age group setting, you will work closely with practitioners, parents and external professionals to identify children's individual needs, put appropriate support in place and monitor their progress.
Your role will include:
- Acting as the nursery's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)
- Supporting the identification of children's additional needs at an early stage
- Working closely with practitioners to develop appropriate strategies and individual support plans
- Monitoring and reviewing children's progress and development
- Working in partnership with parents and carers, ensuring they are fully involved in their child's support
- Liaising confidently and professionally with external professionals and agencies, including health visitors, speech and language therapists and other specialists
- Attending and contributing confidently to multi-agency meetings and professional meetings
- Sharing relevant information and advocating for the needs of children in your care
- Preparing clear, accurate and professional written reports, referrals, assessments and supporting documentation
- Supporting applications for additional funding and specialist support where appropriate
- Ensuring SEND records and documentation are accurate, up to date and maintained confidentially
- Supporting practitioners to provide inclusive learning opportunities and adapt activities to meet individual needs
- Keeping up to date with current SEND guidance, legislation and best practice
- Promoting an inclusive culture where every child is valued and supported
- Contributing to staff training, advice and professional development around SEND
- Ensuring practice is in line with the EYFS, SEND Code of Practice and nursery policies
- Working closely with the nursery management team to continually improve SEND provision
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about inclusion and improving outcomes for children with SEND
- Warm, approachable and able to build trusting relationships with children and families
- Confident communicating with parents, carers, colleagues and external professionals
- An excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing
- Confident and professional when communicating with parents, carers, colleagues and external professionals
- Able to produce high-quality, clear and accurate written reports
- Organised and able to manage SEND information and documentation effectively
- Knowledgeable about child development and early identification of additional needs
- Able to support and guide practitioners with confidence
- Patient, empathetic and understanding
- A positive team player who is committed to high-quality early years practice
A relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification is essential. A recognised SENCO qualification or relevant SEND experience would be highly desirable.
