LOGISTICS ACCOUNT MANAGER
Location: Membury, Berkshire
Department: Client Services / Logistics
Reports to: Client Services Manager
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Walker Logistics is a values-driven, family-run third-party logistics business with a proud history and ambitious plans for the future.
Founded by Philip Walker in 1999, the business began in a converted aircraft hangar near Membury Airfield. Today, supported by second-generation family members and a dedicated team of logistics professionals, we operate more than 250,000 sq ft of high-quality warehousing, with our estate set to grow to approximately 385,000 sq ft.
Despite that growth, we remain grounded in the principles on which the company was built: working together, taking responsibility, looking after our clients and colleagues, and building relationships that last.
We provide omni-channel fulfilment, distribution, bonded warehousing and value-added logistics services to more than 50 UK and international clients across a wide range of sectors. We currently deliver to more than 80 countries and process over 20,000 orders each day.
ORGANISED AS A TEAM; COMMITTED AS A FAMILY
Our values guide how we work and who we are becoming:
DYNAMIC — DYNAMIC BY DESIGN
We bring energy and agility to our work. We respond quickly, remain calm under pressure and find practical solutions when circumstances change.
AMBITIOUS — AMBITION UNDER PRESSURE
We take ownership, set bold goals and push ourselves to deliver results that create lasting value for our clients and the wider business.
EVOLVING — EVOLVING WITH PURPOSE
We learn from experience, welcome feedback and continuously look for better, smarter and more effective ways of working.
We are now looking for a Logistics Account Manager who shares these values and can play a central role in managing and developing our client relationships.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Logistics Account Manager, you will act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of valued clients.
You will be responsible for ensuring that their day-to-day logistics requirements are delivered accurately, efficiently and professionally. This will include coordinating inbound and outbound operations, monitoring service performance, resolving issues and developing strong working relationships with clients and internal teams.
Depending on the accounts assigned to you, the role may also involve international freight, customs-controlled inventory, bonded warehousing and other regulated logistics activities.
This is a varied and fast-moving position requiring strong organisation, commercial awareness and the ability to remain focused when priorities change.
You will not simply respond to client requests. You will understand their operations, anticipate potential issues and act as a trusted partner in improving their supply chain performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of client accounts and serving as their principal day-to-day contact.
- Building strong, professional and long-term relationships with clients.
- Developing a detailed understanding of each client’s products, processes, priorities and commercial objectives.
- Coordinating inbound receipts, outbound orders, storage, fulfilment and distribution activities.
- Working closely with warehouse operations, Customer Relationship Managers, transport providers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting the movement and control of goods through bonded or customs-regulated warehousing where applicable.
- Ensuring operational activity complies with agreed processes, customs requirements and relevant regulatory obligations.
- Monitoring client KPIs, service level agreements and operational performance.
- Producing accurate reports and presenting performance information during regular client meetings and reviews.
- Investigating service failures, stock discrepancies, shipment delays and other operational issues.
- Leading issues through to resolution and maintaining clear communication with all parties.
- Identifying potential risks before they affect service delivery.
- Coordinating operational plans for promotions, product launches, seasonal peaks and other periods of increased activity.
- Reviewing transport, storage and fulfilment processes to identify opportunities for cost savings and improved efficiency.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across client accounts.
- Ensuring client invoicing is accurate, complete and issued in accordance with agreed commercial arrangements.
- Reviewing account profitability and escalating commercial risks or concerns where appropriate.
- Working collaboratively with operations, finance, sales, IT and senior management.
- Supporting client onboarding, implementation projects and account development opportunities.
- Keeping up to date with logistics industry developments, relevant regulatory changes and evolving client requirements.
- Representing Walker Logistics professionally during meetings, site visits, telephone calls and written communications.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for someone who combines strong logistics knowledge with excellent client-management skills.
You will be proactive, organised and comfortable taking ownership of issues. You will communicate clearly, remain composed under pressure and be able to balance the needs of the client with the operational and commercial requirements of the business.
You should have:
- Previous experience in logistics, supply chain, fulfilment, warehousing, freight or a related environment.
- Experience managing client or customer accounts within a service-led business.
- A good understanding of inbound and outbound logistics operations.
- Strong customer service and relationship-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The confidence to lead client meetings and discuss operational performance.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage several priorities simultaneously.
- A practical and structured approach to problem-solving.
- The ability to analyse operational information and identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Good commercial awareness, including an understanding of service costs, invoicing and account profitability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Experience using warehouse management systems, logistics software or ERP platforms.
- A proactive and self-motivated approach.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider team.
- Flexibility to provide occasional weekend support when operationally required.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
The following would be advantageous:
- 1 or more year's experience in 3PL account management or a similar logistics role.
- Experience of international freight, import and export processes or freight forwarding.
- Knowledge of bonded warehousing and customs-controlled inventory.
- An understanding of customs compliance, commodity classifications or trade regulations.
- Experience developing and reporting against KPIs and service level agreements.
- Experience using reporting tools or analysing operational data.
- A track record of delivering operational efficiencies, cost savings or service improvements.
- A qualification in logistics, supply chain management, business or a related subject.
Formal qualifications are valuable, but they are not the only measure of suitability. Relevant experience, attitude and alignment with our values will be equally important.

You bring enthusiasm and momentum to your accounts, keeping actions moving and encouraging others to deliver.

You welcome feedback, learn from mistakes and invest in improving your own knowledge and the performance of the wider team.
