We are seeking an energetic, reliable, and attentive Night Porter to join the team at The Royal Hotel, Skegness. This is an important overnight position, responsible for providing a warm and professional welcome to our guests while ensuring their safety, comfort, and overall experience throughout the night.
Working as part of our hotel team, the Night Porter will support the smooth running of the hotel during overnight hours, combining excellent guest service with practical operational and security responsibilities. The successful candidate will be confident working independently, remain calm and approachable throughout the night, and take pride in maintaining the high standards expected by our guests.
The role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys hospitality, communicates confidently with a wide range of guests, and is proactive in dealing with overnight requests and unexpected situations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome guests arriving at The Royal Hotel, Skegness, providing a friendly, professional, and reassuring first impression.
- Carry out check-in and check-out procedures, ensuring guest details and records are completed accurately.
- Respond promptly and courteously to guest enquiries, both face-to-face and by telephone.
- Provide guests with information about the hotel, its facilities, local attractions, restaurants, entertainment, and transport options in Skegness and the surrounding Lincolnshire coast.
- Handle guest requests, concerns, and complaints professionally, resolving issues where possible and escalating them to the appropriate manager when required.
- Monitor the hotel throughout the night, helping to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for guests and colleagues.
- Monitor CCTV and other security systems, where applicable, and carry out regular checks and patrols of designated areas of the hotel.
- Follow the hotel's security, fire, emergency, and health and safety procedures at all times.
- Respond appropriately to overnight incidents and emergencies, following established procedures and contacting emergency services or management when necessary.
- Complete accurate night audit, incident logs, shift reports, and other overnight administration as required.
- Assist with reservations, room enquiries, guest messages, special requests, and other front-of-house administration.
- Support the wider hotel operation by liaising with housekeeping, maintenance, management, and other departments regarding any overnight requirements.
- Carry out appropriate overnight cleaning, tidying, and presentation duties to ensure guest and communal areas remain clean, safe, and presentable.
- Prepare relevant areas of the hotel for the following day's operations where required.
- Ensure all keys, guest information, cash, records, and other hotel property are handled securely and in accordance with hotel procedures.
- Maintain a professional and welcoming presence throughout the night, ensuring guests feel looked after and supported at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in a hotel, hospitality, front-of-house, reception, or customer service environment is desirable.
- Previous experience working night shifts or in a role requiring independent overnight working would be advantageous.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently and courteously with guests.
- Good telephone etiquette and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally both in person and over the phone.
- A strong understanding of customer service and hospitality standards.
- Awareness of security, fire safety, emergency, and health and safety procedures.
- Previous experience using CCTV or hotel security systems would be an advantage.
- Good administrative and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to remain alert, professional, and approachable throughout overnight hours.
- Comfortable working independently and using initiative when management or other departments may not be immediately available.
- Flexible, dependable, and punctual, with a proactive approach to supporting the hotel and its guests.
- A genuine interest in providing an excellent guest experience and representing The Royal Hotel, Skegness in a positive and professional manner.
