Sous Chef – Calvo Loco, Exeter

Calvo Loco is an authentic Spanish tapas bar in the heart of Exeter, serving fresh Andalusian-inspired food alongside a carefully curated wine and cocktail list.
We’re looking for an ambitious Sous Chef who loves cooking from fresh ingredients, enjoys leading a team, and wants to be part of a growing independent restaurant group with genuine opportunities for progression.
The Role
Working alongside our Head Chef & small team, you’ll help lead the kitchen day-to-day, ensuring every plate leaves to an exceptional standard while maintaining a calm, organised service.
You’ll be involved in:
- Leading service and motivating the kitchen team.
- Maintaining consistently high food standards.
- Supporting ordering, stock control and GP targets.
- Training and developing junior chefs.
- Maintaining excellent food hygiene and allergen standards.
- Assisting with menu development and seasonal specials.
- Running the kitchen confidently in the Head Chef’s absence.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Has experience as a Sous Chef or a strong Junior Sous ready for the next step.
- Thrives in a busy, fast-paced kitchen.
- Takes pride in consistency and attention to detail.
- Leads by example with a positive attitude.
- Is organised, reliable and calm under pressure.
- Shares our passion for genuine hospitality and Spanish food.
