About the Role
Are you a skilled listener who understands that supporting someone through grief isn't about "fixing" things, but about holding space for them?
High Peak CVS is looking for a compassionate, emotionally mature individual to join our team as a Bereavement Service Support Worker. Working closely with our Bereavement Service Lead, you will play a vital role in co-facilitating our support groups, managing client referrals, and expanding our vital network across the High Peak community.
If you are open-minded, calm under pressure, and want to make a tangible, positive impact on people navigating the hardest moments of their lives, we would love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Group Co-Facilitation: Partner with the Service Lead, volunteers, and partner organisations to co-facilitate existing bereavement support groups (both in-person and via Zoom), working towards occasionally facilitating independently.
- Volunteer Support: Help recruit, train, and support a dedicated team of volunteers.
- Client Care: Conduct sensitive referral assessments for potential group members and make individual support calls when clients need extra care.
- Community Engagement: Actively promote the bereavement service across High Peak communities and build strong relationships with statutory services and the wider voluntary sector.
- Admin & Reporting: Manage day-to-day administration, maintain accurate records, and contribute to funder reports in line with organisation policies.
About You (Personal Qualities)
We are looking for someone who possesses deep empathy and emotional intelligence. To thrive in this role, you should have:
- Advanced Listening Skills: A natural ability to tolerate difficult emotions and comfortably sit with someone else's pain without trying to "solve" it.
- Emotional Maturity: A strong awareness of your own feelings, a commitment to self-work, and robust self-care strategies.
- Inclusivity: A non-judgmental, flexible approach with the ability to relate to people from all walks of life.
- Team Spirit: A collaborative mindset that sees the "bigger picture" of community support.
Requirements & Working Conditions
- Local Knowledge: A good understanding of the High Peak area and its communities.
- Travel: Access to a vehicle is essential, as travel is a vital part of this role across the whole High Peak region.
- Flexibility: Ability to attend evening groups as required.
- Practical Capability: Capable of setting up and taking down community rooms (arranging chairs, moving tables, clearing up, etc.).
- Compliance: Willingness to adhere to all organisational policies and undergo relevant training/supervision.
What We Offer
- A deeply rewarding role within a supportive, values-driven team.
- Ongoing professional and personal development opportunities.
- Regular supervision and team support.
