We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Vans Controller to oversee and manage our transportation and logistics operations. Job Summary:
The Transport Controller oversees daily transport operations by planning routes, allocating drivers and vehicles, monitoring deliveries, and responding to operational issues. They ensure compliance with transport regulations, company policies, and health and safety standards while maintaining high levels of customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily transport schedules.
- Allocate vehicles and drivers based on operational requirements.
- Monitor vehicle movements using GPS and transport management systems.
- Communicate with drivers regarding schedules, route changes, and delays.
- Ensure deliveries and collections are completed on time.
- Maintain accurate transport records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with driver hours regulations, vehicle safety standards, and transport legislation.
- Liaise with customers, warehouses, and other departments to resolve transport issues.
- Respond to breakdowns, accidents, or other operational disruptions.
- Produce transport reports and analyse operational performance.
- Assist with route optimisation to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure vehicles are serviced and maintained in line with company requirements.
Required Skills

- Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions.
- Knowledge of transport legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience using transport management systems (TMS) and GPS tracking software VMS.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—to facilitate smooth coordination across departments.
- Proficiency in data entry, typing accuracy, and maintaining detailed records related to shipping & receiving activities.
- Prior experience in a logistics environment demonstrating attention to detail and organizational skills is desirable.
Working Hours
- Typically 37.5–48 hours per week.
- Shift work, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays may be required, particularly in 24/7 operations.
