As our clinics continue to grow and expand, we are looking to build a reliable team of experienced Locum Sonographers to provide holiday cover, sickness cover and additional clinical support during busy periods across our Ballymena and Derry clinics.

Experience & QualificationsEssential
- Appropriate professional registration (HCPC or equivalent where applicable).
- Experience independently performing and reporting diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A compassionate, patient-centred approach.
- Ability to work independently within a busy clinical environment.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Experience in One or More of the Following
- Women's Health Ultrasound
- Pelvic & Transvaginal Ultrasound
- Fertility Ultrasound & Follicle Tracking
- Early Pregnancy Ultrasound
- Dating, Reassurance, Growth & Wellbeing Pregnancy Scans
- Breast Ultrasound
- General Abdominal Ultrasound
- Liver & Gallbladder Ultrasound
- Kidney, Bladder & Urinary Tract Ultrasound
- Prostate Ultrasound
- Testicular Ultrasound
- Soft Tissue & Lump Assessment
- Hernia Ultrasound
- Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound
- Vascular Ultrasound, including DVT, Arterial and Carotid Doppler
- Paediatric Ultrasound

The Role
As a Locum Sonographer, you will provide high-quality ultrasound services across our Ballymena and Derry clinics, ensuring patients receive exceptional care whenever additional clinical support is required.
You will be expected to deliver accurate diagnostic imaging, produce high-quality reports and uphold the clinical standards that Highway Health is known for.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently perform and report diagnostic ultrasound examinations within your scope of practice.
- Deliver an exceptional patient experience at every appointment.
- Produce accurate, timely and clinically appropriate ultrasound reports.
- Recognise and escalate urgent or unexpected findings in accordance with clinical protocols.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and imaging records.
- Comply with HCPC, BMUS, RQIA and Highway Health policies and procedures.
- Maintain high standards of patient confidentiality, professionalism and clinical governance.
- Work collaboratively with our clinical and administrative teams to ensure clinics run efficiently.
Availability
This is a flexible bank/locum position providing:
- Holiday cover
- Sickness cover
- Additional clinic sessions during periods of high demand
Sessions are available across both our Ballymena and Derry clinics. While we will provide as much notice as possible for planned cover, there will also be opportunities for short-notice work.
