Job Description:
As a Sous Chef at Wild West Diner, you will work closely with our Head Chef/Kitchen Manager to lead the kitchen team in delivering outstanding culinary experiences. Your responsibilities will include maintaining kitchen hygiene standards, managing inventory, ensuring food safety compliance, and contributing to menu development. You will also play a key role in supervising kitchen staff, training new team members, and fostering a positive work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Chef in overseeing the daily operations of the kitchen
- Lead and manage a team of kitchen staff, including assigning tasks and providing guidance
- Ensure food production meets high-quality standards and is prepared in a timely manner
- Collaborate with the Head Chef to create and update menus, taking into consideration customer preferences and seasonal ingredients
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment, adhering to food safety and sanitation regulations
- Help train new kitchen staff members and provide ongoing coaching and development
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction
Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Sous Chef or in a similar leadership role in a restaurant or hospitality setting
- Strong culinary skills with a focus on quality and presentation
- Excellent team management and communication skills
- Knowledge of food production techniques, including proper cooking methods and portion control
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
Attainments:
- Evidence of studying GCSE’s or above.
- Achieved Level 1/2 NVQ in Professional Cookery or equivalent qualification
- NVQ 3 Preferred but not essential
- Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene or above
