The Kitchen Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment while supporting the kitchen team with daily operations. The role is essential in ensuring that food preparation and service run efficiently and in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Wash and clean dishes, pots, pans, utensils, kitchen equipment, and storage areas.
- Maintain the cleanliness of kitchen floors, walls, work surfaces, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Dispose of rubbish and recycling materials in accordance with company procedures.
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation when required.
- Receive, check, and properly store deliveries.
- Ensure stock is rotated according to the “first in, first out” (FIFO) principle.
- Follow all food safety, health, and hygiene regulations.
- Report any maintenance, safety, or equipment issues to management.
- Assist with deep-cleaning duties according to the cleaning schedule.
- Work effectively as part of a team to maintain smooth kitchen operations.
Skills and Requirements
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Basic knowledge of food hygiene regulations is preferred.
- Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
