We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Senior Peer Support Worker to join the John Denmark Unit, a specialist inpatient service for Deaf people with mental health needs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with lived experience of mental health difficulties and a strong understanding of Deaf mental health services to use that experience in a meaningful and recovery-focused role.
The post holder will provide peer support to Deaf service users, helping them identify strengths, goals and aspirations, while promoting hope, inclusion and self-management. The role also involves supporting accessible communication and information for people with a range of communication needs, including those with more complex presentations.
As a senior role, this post will also support and mentor other peer support workers, contribute to training and service development, and help champion the value of peer support across the service. This role would suit someone who is a fluent British Sign Language user, committed to recovery, equality and person-centred care.
The Senior Peer Support Worker will provide recovery-focused peer support to Deaf service users within the John Denmark Unit, drawing on lived experience to build supportive relationships, promote hope, and help individuals identify strengths, goals and opportunities for greater independence. The role includes supporting accessible communication, contributing to care planning and reviews, and helping service users engage with community resources, Deaf networks and recovery-focused activities.
The post holder will also act as a positive Deaf role model within the service, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to promote person-centred, trauma-informed and inclusive care. As a senior member of the peer support workforce, the role includes mentoring and supporting other peer support workers, contributing to training and service development, and helping strengthen the quality and visibility of peer support across the service.
