We are looking for an experienced, motivated, and highly organised Senior Receptionist to join our busy, friendly NHS GP practice serving nearly 19,000 patients. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and a passion for delivering outstanding patient care and customer service.
As a Senior Receptionist, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth day-to-day running of our reception team, ensuring patients receive a professional, compassionate, and efficient service at all times.
About the Role
Working within a fast-paced primary care environment, you will help oversee reception operations, support the wider administrative team, and act as a point of escalation for complex patient queries. You will also support workflow management using digital systems including SystmOne and Accurx.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the reception team on a daily basis
- Managing patient enquiries via telephone, face-to-face, and online consultation platforms
- Coordinating appointment bookings, cancellations, and clinician schedules
- Handling urgent and routine patient requests using Accurx
- Using SystmOne to manage patient records, appointments, and administrative workflows
- Supporting clinical rota management
- Escalating safeguarding, complaints, or complex patient concerns appropriately
- Maintaining confidentiality and GDPR compliance at all times
- Supporting practice management with service improvement and operational efficiency
About You
We are looking for someone who is calm under pressure, approachable, and able to lead by example in a demanding environment.
Essential skills and experience:
- Previous reception experience within an NHS GP practice or primary care setting
- Strong working knowledge of SystmOne
- Experience using Accurx (or similar platform)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational and multitasking ability
- Ability to prioritise workload in a busy environment
- Confident handling difficult conversations with empathy and professionalism
- Good IT skills and attention to detail
- Leadership or supervisory experience
Desirable:
- Experience with rota coordination or workforce planning
- Knowledge of NHS targets, workflows, and patient access requirements
- Understanding of care navigation and signposting
