Pay: £12.71 - £15 per hour (depending on experience)
Location: Haslingden, Lancashire
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours/week, across 5 days, Monday–Saturday, early morning starts (approx 1am / 2am)
Reports to: Head Baker & Team Leader
Who We’re Looking For:
Cissy Greens is known for making proper food in Haslingden. From our traditional hand-raised meat pies to bread, cakes, and sweet treats, we’re proud of doing things properly; using good ingredients, traditional methods and plenty of care.
Our wholesale bakery is where much of that work happens. We supply Cissy Greens as well as a growing number of wholesale customers, so no two days are necessarily the same.
We’re looking for an experienced Baker to join our small, hands-on wholesale bakery team.
This isn’t a role for someone looking to simply turn up, do the same job every day and go home. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in what they make, wants to learn, is happy to get stuck in and enjoys being part of a small team where everyone plays their part.
You’ll work closely with our Head Baker, learning our products, methods and way of working. You’ll be expected to follow direction, develop your skills and, once trained, take responsibility for your own work and production tasks while knowing that support and guidance is always available.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Baking & Production:
· Produce a range of baked goods for Cissy Greens and our wholesale customers, including pies, bread and sweet treats.
· Follow recipes, production plans and instructions from the Head Baker to ensure consistency and quality.
· Prepare, mix, shape, prove, bake and finish products to the required standards.
· Learn and apply Cissy Greens’ traditional hand-raised pie-making methods. Working with hot water crust pastry.
· Work with both traditional baking techniques and modern commercial bakery equipment.
· Scale ingredients accurately and prepare batches according to production requirements.
· Maintain high standards of presentation, quality and consistency across all products.
· Adapt to changing production requirements, with the volume and type of work varying according to customer orders.
Working as Part of the Team:
· Work closely with the Head Baker and wider bakery team to keep production running smoothly.
· Follow direction and support the Head Baker with day-to-day production.
· Once trained, work independently on allocated tasks and take responsibility for completing them properly and on time.
· Support colleagues across the bakery and be willing to get stuck in wherever needed.
· Help maintain an organised, clean and efficient working environment.
· Communicate effectively with colleagues, particularly during busy periods.
· Take pride in being part of a small team where everyone’s contribution matters.
Training & Development:
· Learn Cissy Greens’ traditional hand-raised pie-making techniques and other specialist production methods.
· Develop your knowledge across our wider range of bakery products.
· There may also be an opportunity to learn additional skills such as butchery.
· Take on increasing responsibility as your knowledge and confidence develop.
· Be open to learning new products, processes and techniques as the business grows.
Food Hygiene, Health & Safety:
· Follow all food hygiene, allergen and health & safety procedures at all times.
· Maintain excellent standards of personal hygiene and cleanliness.
· Ensure work areas, equipment and production spaces are kept clean, safe and organised.
· Handle ingredients and finished products safely and responsibly.
· Understand the importance of food safety and the responsibility we have to our customers.
· Report any food safety, equipment or operational concerns promptly.
What You’ll Bring:
Experience & Qualifications:
· At least 3 years’ relevant professional experience in baking or a strong food production environment.
· Experience working with bread, pies or similar baked products.
· A strong understanding of professional food production and bakery processes.
· Experience working in a busy, hands-on environment.
· Confidence working with commercial bakery equipment.
· Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification is preferred. Knowledge of HACCP is essential.
· Experience with hand-raised pies would be advantageous, but full training will be provided.
· An experienced chef with a strong food background and a genuine interest in developing their baking skills will also be considered.
Skills & Qualities:
· Passionate about making good food and taking pride in your work.
· Keen to learn and develop your skills.
· A strong team player who is happy to help colleagues.
· Organised and able to work effectively in a busy production environment.
· High standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety.
