Thousands of air source heat pump systems across the UK have been poorly installed, commissioned or configured — leaving homeowners and businesses with systems that underperform, cost more to run than they should, and undermine confidence in the technology.

We install, maintain, diagnose and optimise renewable heating systems, with a particular focus on air source heat pumps. Whether we're commissioning a brand-new installation, servicing an existing system, or investigating why a system isn't performing as it should, our focus is always the same: making sure the technology works properly.

We're looking for engineers at different stages of their careers — from developing engineers with a solid grounding in plumbing and heating, through to experienced renewable heating service engineers capable of independently diagnosing, designing, commissioning and optimising complex systems.

WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT
This isn't simply about fitting equipment and moving on.
A large part of the role involves getting under the skin of heating systems, understanding why they're not performing and applying sound technical knowledge to put them right.
You'll work across a varied range of systems and manufacturers, carrying out servicing, fault finding, optimisation, commissioning, remedial works and technical assessments.
For less experienced engineers, we'll provide training, support and exposure to a wide range of systems to help build your technical capability.
For experienced engineers, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of more complex diagnostic and technical work, contribute to system design and compliance, support engineering standards across the business, and help develop less experienced members of the team.
As AirSourced continues to grow, the engineers joining us now will also have the opportunity to influence how our engineering and service operations develop.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Depending on your level of experience and responsibility, you'll:
- Service and maintain air source heat pump systems in residential and commercial settings
- Diagnose faults and performance issues within heat pump, heating and hot water systems
- Identify and rectify problems caused by poor installation, system design, commissioning or controls
- Optimise systems to improve performance, efficiency, reliability and customer comfort
- Commission heat pump systems in accordance with manufacturer requirements, MCS standards and good industry practice
- Carry out plumbing, heating and associated remedial works
- Review system operation including temperatures, flow rates, pressures, controls and hydraulic performance
- Support installation and commissioning projects as this area of the business grows
- Complete accurate service records, reports and technical documentation
- Liaise professionally with homeowners, clients, contractors and other stakeholders
- Help maintain and improve AirSourced's engineering, quality and technical standards
More experienced engineers may also:
- Lead complex fault-finding and diagnostic works
- Carry out or review room-by-room heat loss calculations
- Develop, review or troubleshoot heat pump system designs
- Assess emitter sizing, flow rates, pipework, buffers, volumisers and hydraulic arrangements
- Configure and troubleshoot advanced controls and weather compensation
- Review zoning, controls integration and system operating strategies
- Work with bivalent and hybrid heating systems
- Carry out technical audits and compliance assessments
- Review existing installations against MCS requirements, Building Regulations and recognised industry standards
- Produce remedial designs and technical recommendations
- Provide technical support to engineers and clients
- Mentor and support developing engineers
- Feed back recurring installation, product and design issues to help improve wider business performance
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're open to candidates at different stages of their careers.
Developing / Junior Engineers
You may have around 1–2 years' experience within plumbing, heating, heat pumps, district heating or a related field and be looking to build a long-term career in renewable heating.
You'll ideally have:
- NVQ Level 2 Plumbing & Heating or equivalent
- A good understanding of domestic heating and hot water systems
- Practical plumbing and heating experience
- Basic understanding of system components, controls and hydraulics
- A logical and methodical approach to fault finding
- A willingness to learn and develop technically
- Good attention to detail
- Pride in the quality of your work
- Good communication skills
- A full UK driving licence
Previous heat pump experience is beneficial, but not essential. We're prepared to invest in the right engineer with strong heating fundamentals, practical ability and the right attitude.
Experienced / Senior Engineers
You may already be working as a heat pump, renewable heating, HVAC or heating service engineer and be comfortable working independently on more complex systems.
We're particularly interested in engineers with:
- Strong practical experience servicing, fault finding and optimising heat pump and heating systems
- A detailed understanding of hydronic heating systems, controls and system operation
- Experience diagnosing underlying performance issues rather than simply replacing components
- The ability to independently manage complex technical service visits
- Experience working across multiple heat pump manufacturers
- Strong commissioning and system optimisation knowledge
- Experience carrying out or reviewing room-by-room heat loss calculations
- The ability to review, develop or troubleshoot heat pump system designs
- Strong understanding of emitter sizing, flow rates, pipe sizing, hydraulic separation, buffers and volumisers
- Good knowledge of advanced heating controls, weather compensation, zoning and system integration
- Understanding of bivalent and hybrid heating systems, including appropriate operating and control strategies
- Sound working knowledge of MCS requirements and standards
- Good working knowledge of relevant Building Regulations
- Awareness of relevant industry accreditations, certification requirements and recognised standards
- The ability to assess whether an existing installation is compliant, appropriately designed and capable of delivering the required performance
- The confidence to produce technical recommendations and explain complex issues clearly
- The ability to support and mentor less experienced engineers
Experience with technical audits, design review, compliance assessment, remedial design and quality assurance would be particularly valuable.
QUALIFICATIONS
We're more interested in technical ability and practical experience than whether every candidate has exactly the same qualification route.
Relevant qualifications may include:
- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 Plumbing & Heating
- BPEC / LCL Level 3 Air Source Heat Pump qualification
- G3 Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems
- C&G 2393-10 / Part P Domestic Installer
- Manufacturer-specific heat pump training
- F-Gas qualification
- Electrical fault-finding or controls qualifications
- MCS-related training or industry accreditation
Not every qualification is required for every candidate, and additional training can be provided where appropriate.
