HGV Class 1 Shunter / FLT Operative, NIGHTS
Location: Unit 3 Trident Court, Waterside Road, Leeds LS10 1TW
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 48 hours per week, starting at 10:00pm.
Base Salary: £39,013.00 per annum (£15.63 per hour, based on a 48-hour working week).
Overtime: Paid at time & ½ after 48 hours per week – regular overtime opportunities available, subject to operational requirements and individual availability.
The Role
Do you have a valid HGV Class 1 licence and experience operating an FLT? Are you confident manoeuvring HGVs and trailers safely within a busy yard environment?
We are recruiting for a HGV Class 1 Shunter / FLT Operative to support our night-time depot operations in Leeds.
This is a dual-skilled role combining HGV Class 1 driving, yard shunting and FLT operations. You will be responsible for safely moving and positioning vehicles and trailers around the depot, supporting loading and unloading activities, and working closely with the warehouse team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the night operation.

What You’ll Do
- Safely drive, operate and manoeuvre HGV Class 1 vehicles, including shunting vehicles and trailers within the depot and yard.
- Shunt vehicles and trailers between the yard, loading areas and designated parking locations.
- Ensure vehicles and trailers are correctly positioned for loading and unloading operations.
- Operate an FLT safely and efficiently to support loading, unloading and general depot activities.
- Work closely with warehouse staff and other team members to coordinate vehicle movements and loading activities.
- Carry out daily vehicle and equipment checks and report any defects immediately.
- Ensure all vehicle movements and FLT operations are carried out in accordance with health and safety requirements.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures and relevant legal requirements.
- Report any vehicle defects, accidents, incidents or damage immediately to the appropriate personnel.
- Communicate effectively with warehouse management and colleagues to coordinate schedules and operational requirements.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
- Assist with general yard duties as required.

The Person
- Valid UK HGV Class 1 Licence (C+E), CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
- Valid Counter Balance FLT licence/certificate and relevant experience.
- Previous HGV shunting or yard experience is desirable.
- Confident manoeuvring HGVs and trailers within a busy yard environment.
- Comfortable undertaking manual handling activities as part of day-to-day duties.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexible, reliable and safety-conscious.
- Able to work independently and manage vehicle movements safely and efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to following health and safety procedures.
