A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Assistant to join a modern, forward-thinking organisation based in the South Gyle area of Edinburgh.
Our client is happy to consider both part-time and full-time applications and is looking for an ambitious payroll professional, ideally with previous bureau or accountancy practice experience. This is an excellent opportunity to manage your own portfolio of clients while becoming part of a supportive and collaborative team.
The Role
As Payroll Assistant, you will be responsible for delivering an accurate and efficient end-to-end payroll service for a varied client base, while supporting colleagues across the wider team when required.
Your duties will include:
- Preparing weekly, fortnightly, monthly and annual payrolls for a diverse portfolio of clients.
- Processing payroll from start to finish, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and on time.
- Applying current payroll legislation, including tax codes, National Insurance, statutory payments and Auto-Enrolment pension schemes.
- Gathering and checking payroll information, including timesheets and absence records.
- Calculating and processing statutory payments, including sickness, maternity, paternity and adoption pay in line with HMRC guidelines.
- Producing and issuing payroll documentation, including P45s and P60s.
- Preparing payroll reports for clients and the wider business.
- Processing external payments, including earnings arrestment orders.
- Maintaining accurate holiday and absence records.
- Providing excellent service and support to clients and colleagues.
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Previous payroll experience within a busy payroll team, ideally in a bureau or accountancy practice environment.
- A strong understanding of current payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
- Experience using payroll software and strong IT skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive client relationships.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to prioritise workloads, manage multiple deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive, professional and positive approach to your work.
