Overview
To lead and coordinate production teams across Evisceration (EV), Lairage, and Truss areas, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations. The role is responsible for delivering production targets while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare, food safety, quality, and people management.
Responsibilities
Operational Management
· Supervise day-to-day operations across EV, Lairage, and Truss
· Ensure production plans are delivered in line with volume, yield, and efficiency targets
· Monitor line performance and take proactive action to minimise downtime
· Coordinate with Engineering, QA, and Planning to maintain flow and resolve issues
· Ensure correct staffing levels and effective deployment of labour
Animal Welfare (Lairage Focus)
· Ensure all animal welfare standards are met in line with legislation and company policy
· Monitor bird condition, handling, and lairage conditions (ventilation, stocking density, water access where applicable)
· Act immediately on any welfare concerns and escalate where required
· Ensure all staff are trained and compliant with welfare procedures
Food Safety & Compliance
· Maintain compliance with BRCGS, Red Tractor, and all site standards
· Ensure hygiene, traceability, and contamination controls are followed at all times
· Work closely with QA to ensure product meets customer specifications
· Lead by example in audit readiness and compliance culture
Health & Safety
· Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all areas
· Ensure risk assessments and safe systems of work are followed
· Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe behaviours
· Ensure PPE compliance and safe machinery operation
People Management
· Lead, motivate, and manage teams including Machine Minders and Operatives
· Conduct return-to-work interviews, performance reviews, and disciplinary processes where required
· Support onboarding and training of new starters (including ESOL considerations)
· Manage attendance, timekeeping, and behaviour on shift
· Build a respectful, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
Performance & Continuous Improvement
· Monitor KPIs including throughput, yield, labour efficiency, and downtime
· Identify and implement process improvements
· Support cost control through effective labour and waste management
· Drive accountability and ownership within the team
Experience
Job Related Experience, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Key Skills & Experience
· Previous supervisory experience in a food production or manufacturing environment
· Strong understanding of poultry processing (EV, Lairage, Truss preferred)
· Knowledge of food safety standards (BRCGS, Red Tractor)
· Experience managing diverse teams, including multilingual workforces
· Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
· Confident using basic IT systems (production data, reporting, etc.)
