Role Overview
We are seeking compassionate and reliable Health Care Assistants to provide person-centred care to an adult service user in their own home in Penrith.
You will work according to the service user’s:
- Individual care plan
- Risk assessments
- Moving and handling plan
- Medication Administration Record (MAR)
- Commissioned care package
- Personal preferences and desired outcomes
The role focuses on promoting independence, dignity, safety, comfort and wellbeing.
Occupational Requirement
Due to the intimate personal-care needs and expressed privacy preference of the service user, this position requires a male care worker.

Key ResponsibilitiesPersonal Care
- Assist with washing, bathing, dressing and grooming.
- Provide toileting and continence support.
- Support safe movement and transfers according to risk assessments.
- Prompt or administer medication when trained and authorised.
- Prepare meals and support nutrition and hydration.
- Complete agreed light household duties.
Health and Wellbeing
- Monitor the service user’s health and wellbeing.
- Report changes, concerns or signs of deterioration promptly.
- Encourage independence and personal choice.
- Support mobility and safe movement within the home.
- Provide companionship and emotional reassurance.
- Promote comfort, dignity and quality of life.
Safeguarding and Risk Management
- Identify and report safeguarding concerns immediately.
- Follow Cumbria Safeguarding Adults Procedures.
- Follow infection-prevention and control measures.
- Comply with health-and-safety requirements.
- Protect confidentiality and comply with UK GDPR.
- Record and escalate incidents, accidents and risks appropriately.
Care Records
Maintain clear, accurate and timely records, including:
- Daily care notes
- Medication Administration Records
- Incident and accident reports
- Risk-assessment updates
- Communication logs
- Relevant contact with healthcare professionals
Records may be completed electronically or on paper, depending on service requirements.
Working Arrangements
This role involves lone working in the service user’s home in Penrith. Travel to other service users in the surrounding area may be required according to rota arrangements.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are desirable because of the geographical nature of domiciliary care.
Essential Requirements

Desirable Requirements
- Previous domiciliary-care or care-home experience
- Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ/QCF in Health and Social Care
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Experience supporting adults with physical disabilities
