Moughton Engineering are looking to recruit the following –
Fabrication / Welding Supervisor
We are looking for an experienced Fabrication / Welding Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operation of our stainless-steel fabrication shop, ensuring customer demands are met to specification, on time and within budget. Working in close liaison with the senior Project Engineer and Projects team, you will take ownership of the flow of work through this department.
About the Role
This is a hands-on supervisory position combining fabrication and welding expertise with team leadership. You will allocate material and manpower in line with the production plan, maintain quality and traceability, develop a motivated and flexible team, and take responsibility for health, safety, efficiency and equipment maintenance within your bays.
Key Responsibilities
- Allocate material and manpower effectively in line with the production plan to meet customer demands.
- Oversee and plan material movement within the bays to maintain traceability and monitor progress on all work.
- Minimise bottlenecks and re-works, while maximising workshop resources and productivity.
- Produce fully detailed work instructions so all manufacturing is completed to the drawing / job number issued by Project Engineers.
- Ensure correct allocation of material, tooling and manpower to meet changing priorities and maintain effective workflow.
- Develop a motivated, flexible team — identifying training needs, carrying out appraisals, coaching and mentoring, and running regular toolbox talks.
- Resolve staff issues promptly and monitor staff welfare, reporting to the Workshop Manager as appropriate.
- Maintain all aspects of health, safety, efficiency, cost-effectiveness and equipment maintenance within your bays, ensuring good housekeeping and audit compliance.
- Report plant breakdowns promptly and co-ordinate repairs to minimise downtime.
What We’re Looking For
- Welder / Fabricator with proven experience in a similar fabrication environment.
- Experience of MIG and TIG welding, and the ability to read technical drawings.
- Good knowledge of the health, safety and quality aspects applicable to the position.
- A strong, motivating leader — able to manage, coach and mentor a team, and to address under-performance.
- Well organised and results-driven, with sound financial awareness and an eye for continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Flexible and adaptable, able to work autonomously and prioritise team workloads to meet deadlines and targets.
This position may involve occasional work away from base.
What We Offer
- Basic 38-hour week, with an early finish on Fridays.
- Salary dependent on experience.
- 23 days annual holiday allowance (excluding Bank Holidays), plus birthday leave, a Wellbeing Day and Christmas Eve.
- Contributory pension scheme, life assurance and occupational health screening.
