Children’s Hairdresser
Location: Solihull
Full-time / Part-time | Permanent
We are looking for a skilled, confident and compassionate Children’s Hairdresser to join our growing team in Solihull.
This is an opportunity for an experienced hair professional who understands that working with children requires more than excellent cutting skills. The successful candidate will be patient, warm, adaptable and highly professional, with the ability to create a calm and enjoyable salon experience for every child.
You will be responsible for providing haircuts and styling for children of different ages, personalities and abilities, including children with additional needs and sensory sensitivities.
About the Role
As a Children’s Hairdresser, you will:
- Deliver high-quality haircuts and styling for children of all ages.
- Carry out a range of children’s cuts, from traditional and modern styles to more individual requirements.
- Consult professionally with parents and carers to understand their preferences and their child’s needs.
- Create a welcoming and reassuring environment where children feel comfortable and respected.
- Adapt your communication and technique according to each child’s age, temperament and individual needs.
- Support children who may be nervous, anxious or sensitive to touch, sound, movement or unfamiliar surroundings.
- Work confidently with children with SEND and additional support needs.
- Recognise when a child needs extra time, reassurance or a different approach.
- Maintain excellent standards of hygiene, cleanliness and presentation.
- Ensure tools, equipment and the working area are maintained to a high professional standard.
- Provide exceptional customer service and build positive relationships with families.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a friendly, professional salon environment.
About You
We are looking for someone who is genuinely passionate about working with children and takes pride in delivering an excellent experience as well as an excellent haircut.
You will ideally be:
- A qualified and experienced hairdresser, with strong practical cutting skills.
- Experienced in working with children in a professional or salon environment.
- Confident working with a wide range of hair types, textures and styles.
- Naturally patient, calm and reassuring.
- Mature, responsible and emotionally composed, particularly when working with children who may become unsettled or distressed.
- Friendly and approachable, with excellent communication skills.
- Comfortable communicating professionally with parents and carers.
- Observant and able to recognise individual needs and behaviours.
- Flexible and willing to adapt your approach rather than expecting every child to respond in the same way.
- Confident managing appointments while allowing additional time and patience where required.
- Reliable, punctual and well presented.
- Passionate about delivering outstanding standards of service.
- A positive team player who is also capable of working independently.
SEND & Additional Needs
A key part of this role is being able to provide an inclusive and supportive experience for children who may require additional understanding or adjustments.
Experience with SEND is highly desirable. We particularly value candidates who understand that some children may find aspects of a haircut challenging, including noise, clippers, hair washing, touch, sitting still or changes to their usual routine.
You should be comfortable taking a flexible, child-centred approach and allowing children the time and reassurance they need to feel safe and settled.
Skills We Value
- Excellent scissor and clipper skills
- Strong knowledge of children’s hair cutting and styling
- Understanding of different hair types and textures
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Patience and emotional awareness
- Good understanding of professional hygiene and salon standards
- Ability to work calmly under pressure
- Strong attention to detail
- Professional attitude and appearance
- A caring and respectful approach to children and families
- Commitment to safeguarding, inclusivity and creating a positive environment
The Person We’re Looking For
