Job Description: Retail Shop Manager
Location: Central York
Schedule: 5 days a week across Monday–Sunday on a Rota basis. Please Note: working regular weekends and working on public holidays is a requirement of the role.
Salary - £32,000 to £34,000 gross per annum full-time 37.5 hrs week - Dependent on Experience

We’re an artisan, slow-luxury brand rooted in nature and craftsmanship. We’re looking for a Retail Shop Manager to lead our new shop in central York, expected to open in late October 2026. You’ll take the lead on opening preparation, building the team, and setting day-to-day standards as the business grows.
This isn’t just another retail job. You’ll shape a sensory-driven, customer-first experience in a shop designed around story and scent. You’ll lead from the floor, coach your team to delivery customer service excellence and help customers find the right product for the, whether that is one of our fine fragrances, candles or home fragrance, alongside our in-store services: bespoke scent consultations, scent layering appointments, wedding scenting, and hand & arm massage rituals.
You’ll enjoy building relationships with customers and bringing our in-store programme to life; from bookable consultations to seasonal events and local collaborations. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
What You’ll Do:
● Lead by example on the shop floor, coaching the team to deliver consistently high service and confidently introduce customers to our products and services.
● Own day-to-day operations, including rota planning across Monday–Sunday, onboarding and training, and regular 1:1s to support performance and development.
● Keep the shop clean, safe and well-stocked, maintaining high presentation standards across fixtures, testers and product displays.
● Open and close the store in line with company procedure and security processes.
● Ensure compliance with all company policies, health & safety requirements, and relevant retail legislation.
● Curate immersive in-store experiences from our Bespoke Scent Services to Scent Your Wedding, hand & arm rituals, and seasonal events. Please note that you will be trained in scent knowledge and services and required to deliver hand and arm massages to customers as part of this role.
● Plan and deliver visual merchandising for weekly refreshes and seasonal launches, keeping displays aligned with our brand and customer journey.
● Build repeat customers by capturing preferences, recommending routines (e.g., layering and home fragrance), and following up on appointments where appropriate.
● Spot opportunities for local marketing and partnerships (e.g., independent boutiques, bridal suppliers and nearby hospitality venues),and help plan events that increase footfall and repeat visits.
What We’re Looking For:
● A commercially minded retail leader with experience managing (or supporting) a boutique or premium retail environment.
● Ability to develop and inspire your team
● Passion for customer experience, with an instinct for building relationships and delivering memorable service
● Merchandising flair, with an eye for detail and storytelling through product presentation
● Interest in experiential retail comfortable hosting events, running appointments and testing new ways to improve the in-store journey.
